A harsh slap landed on Zuri's face, making her stagger back, but her expression looked bored. After what she had gone through at her father's hands, a simple slap was akin to a pat on the head to her.
They were going to die. She wanted them to die.
A coup against the king would ensure their death sentences, but Zuri was not stupid not to realize she would get implicated too. She could die too if Khaos couldn't save her from a death sentence, or if he chose to back down from his words and abandon her.
In her twisted mind, even though she realized that she actively ruined her life and the people around her, she somehow didn't care...
The voices in her head kept telling her that she was doing the right thing. Zuri felt this sick sense of satisfaction whenever she imagined Xaden and her father's faces when they finally learned she was the one who ruined their plan.
The voices in her head were excited.
"Do you know what you are even doing?! Do you want to tarnish your name?!" Alpha Roland was furious, and advanced toward Zuri, but she didn't back down. "What if your mate knew about it?!" freeωebnovēl.c૦m
"What if he knew?" Zuri tilted her head, looking at her father with amusement. "You didn't care when he had an affair with countless women, but you were enraged when you saw Khaos touch me?"
"It's different between man and woman!" He hissed viciously. "Are you trying to be a whore?!"
Zuri laughed at the last question. "When men sleep around it's okay, but when I sought affection from another man, I became a whore?" Zuri stopped laughing abruptly. "I hate this life. If I could, I would burn this whole world down with me, with you and Xaden in the middle of it."
Alpha Roland was slightly taken aback by what Zuri was saying. He had never seen his daughter show such deep hatred as she did toward him in that moment.
But, his first instinct was to beat the shit out of her to straighten her attitude.
Unfortunately, he couldn't do that as Xaden entered the room and watched with his own eyes that Alpha Roland tried to hurt his mate.
"Hit her and you will regret it, Roland," Xaden growled, he was ready to shift into his beast.
Roland was so consumed by his rage that he didn't realize Xaden was already there. He gritted his teeth, but he said nothing about what he had seen between Zuri and Khaos. It was very predictable to Zuri, as it wouldn't bring any benefit to her father to air her affair.
Moreover, it wasn't like he had caught Khaos in an intimate moment with her; the most they had done was share a simple kiss. Zuri also no longer bore his mark.
"Step back, Roland!" Xaden barked. He strode across the room and pulled Zuri to his side. It must have boosted his ego to think that he saved his weak mate from her abusive father.
Zuri stared at his back, her expression impassive. Men were always very proud whenever they could save a damsel in distress.
"We will talk about this later," Alpha Roland said through his gritted teeth, as he turned around and then left.
Once it was just the two of them, Xaden turned around and checked on Zuri. "Are you okay?" He cupped her face and examined her body briefly. "He slapped you."
"He did."
