A Mate For The Last Lycan novel Chapter 53

Chapter 53: HIS DAYS ARE NUMBERED

Khaos beckoned her to come to him and she did. She approached him and sat down on his lap. She surprised him with her boldness, but he shouldn't have expected any less from her.

"Have you named the wolf?" Khaos asked.

The sudden change in the subject surprised Zuri, but she welcomed it. "Not yet. I don't know what to name him."

Khaos caressed the wolf's head, as Zuri rested her head against his shoulder, breathing in his scent. She enjoyed being so close to him like this.

"What about 'shadow'?" Zuri suggested.

"Shadow?" Khaos quirked his brows. "It contradicts his fur color."

Just like people, their appearance sometimes could fool you. Most of the time, you didn't know what kind of darkness dominated their thoughts.

"I like 'Shadow'."

Khaos nodded. "'Shadow' it is then." He didn't argue with her. This was her wolf after all, he gave it to her. "I like the name."

Zuri smiled brightly when she heard that. "Your name is Shadow now."

Right now, she looked normal. There was no resemblance of that woman, who could kill two guards brutally in cold blood.

"I didn't know that you can fight," Khaos said, he caressed her back and felt her body tense at the mention of the incident inside the dungeon. "Who taught you?"

"My brother, Rhett, taught me how to fight when I was little, but I went by instinct that night," Zuri answered truthfully. She was waiting for him to call her crazy. That was their favorite word to say whenever she didn't behave.

"So, it's your instinct that guided you?"

"Mostly, yes."

Khaos had expected that. Not many shifters were born with a natural killing instinct, but apparently, Zuri was one of them.

There was silence that followed, but Khaos was still caressing her back, which meant he was not mad at her.

She lifted her head to look at his face. "You don't think I am crazy?"

"No. It's their fault." For the guards to be killed by a woman, it was their shame. The palace shouldn't have hired such guards, who were both weak and had lust more than could control.

"Really?" Zuri's eyes lit up, she was surprised, but also ecstatic because she was not being blamed this time.

It was her fault because she couldn't control her actions and acted crazily when the voices in her head turned too loud. Her father would punish her whenever she was not up to his standard.

It was her fault when she couldn't adjust herself quickly. Her mother had been very disappointed in her for not being able to seduce her own mate, losing her baby and then rejecting Xaden because he chose another woman.
