Currently, Khaos and Zuri were lying in bed, in Zuri's bedroom. The alpha went straight to her room, instead of his when he heard she skipped her dinner, and they ended up having this discussion.
"Two thousand warriors are not enough to launch an attack, especially when the River Creek Pack is one of the main packs in this kingdom, but it's enough to make it look very serious," Khaos explained.
"Silas will be a horrible alpha," Zuri grimaced. "Rhett is better."
"We are not looking for someone better, but someone who can be controlled."
Zuri thought about that for a while and realized what he meant, she grimaced. "I don't like politics. It's messy and manipulative."
Khaos chuckled. "If you knew how to play your cards well, it would be just as interesting as how you handle business."
"How so? In business, it's cut and dry, but politics..." Zuri made a face that Khaos found adorable. "It will never be a done deal."
"Do you know how to play chess?"
"No."
"Come, I will teach you."
Zuri blinked her eyes in confusion. She thought they would do something tonight, since Khaos visited her bedroom again, but what were they going to do? Play chess? In the middle of the night?
Khaos asked someone to bring a chess board and also supper for both of them. It didn't go unnoticed by him that Zuri had gotten thinner. He assumed it was because the death of her parents and her mate had affected her more than she wanted to admit.
"What is the relation between chess and politics?" Zuri couldn't believe it, but she really wanted to do something else rather than playing chess with Khaos. She wondered why he didn't want to touch her. Did he feel disgusted by her? But, he cuddled her and came to her bedroom.
"Both require strategy."
However, despite Zuri's initial thoughts, she immersed herself in the game once she got a hang of it. She was very competitive and she just realized it now. That was probably why she often got what she wanted in trading.
"Can't you give in to me once?" Zuri complained, feeling her frustration mount as Khaos defeated her relentlessly time and again. She felt upset.
With Khaos, Zuri felt free to express herself. She felt safe being upset or even angry with him, asking questions and sometimes offending him when her erratic emotions got the best of her.
"What kind of satisfaction do you wish to feel from a false victory?" Khaos smirked. "Try harder and eat your food."
Initially, Zuri refused to eat, saying that she was not hungry and even had the audacity to say that she was too fat and needed to restrict her food intake. Khaos could only raise his brows at that silly excuse.
But, he managed to trick her. With each pawn that he managed to take from her, she had to eat a piece of meat.
And now, with Zuri being defeated for the fourth time, her plate was clean.
"Just like in chess, in life, you can't undo a move, but you can always make the next one better."
Khaos then stood up from his chair and patted her head. She had eaten her food, there was no need to continue playing. freewēbnoveℓ.com
