Chapter 11

Simone froze for a moment, staring at Cyrus in confusion. ‘Didn’t he mean I should leave?‘ she wondered.

Noticing her intense reaction, Cyrus realized she must have faced a lot of unfair treatment in the Spence family. That thought only deepened his dislike for them. Understanding how sensitive she was, his tone softened and he quickly explained, “No one’s asking you to apologize.”

“Does your hand hurt?” Cyrus glanced subtly at the red mark on Wendy’s face, thinking Simone must have hit Wendy pretty hard.

Simone blinked in surprise, her beautiful eyes widening as she asked, “Aren’t you going to ask me why I hit her?”

Back in the Spence family, when something like that happened, Samuel wouldn’t even ask what happened–he’d just force her to apologize. Simone had come to expect it.

“So what if you hit her? Didn’t you say she deserved it?” Cyrus replied nonchalantly as if it were nothing more than a trivial matter to

him.

Simone’s calm heart suddenly became restless, an unexplainable thrill rising within her. She looked into Cyrus’s eyes eagerly and asked, “Do you really believe me?”

Her eyes sparkled as if filled with starlight. Being stared at by such eyes, Cyrus suddenly felt a sense of contentment well up inside him.

“Of course. You’re my daughter,” he replied with certainty. After a moment’s thought, he added, “It’s not about right or wrong. What’s important is that you can’t let anyone harm you.

“If someone picks a fight with you, just fight back. As my daughter, you can walk through Sogin like you own the place.” Cyrus was a notorious figure in the elite circles of Sogin–someone everyone either feared or admired. To him, reputation meant nothing.

Thanks to his words, Simone was in a great mood all day. Unknowingly, the father and daughter grew much closer.

The next morning, Cyrus personally drove Simone to school before heading to work. He had already reviewed the security footage from the day before. It turned out the entire mess was caused by Wendy stirring up trouble.

Cyrus watched the security footage with a cold, stony expression. The moment Wendy started yelling at Simone, the temperature around him seemed to drop below freezing.

After finishing the video, he immediately called Christian over and instructed, “Tell Wendy not to come in tomorrow. Spread the word to other companies–anyone who hires her will be opposing the Irwin Group.”

Christian was about to agree when something occurred to him. “Mr. Irwin, Wendy was personally recruited by you back then.”

“So what?” Cyrus didn’t understand his point.

Christian added, “Back then, you said she was highly skilled at her job.”

Cyrus sneered, “Her skills might be impressive, but the Irwin Group doesn’t lack talented interns.”

He added in his mind, ‘Especially those fools who don’t know their place. Just because I personally recruited her, she thinks she can constantly suppress her coworkers? The Irwin Group doesn’t need that kind of person.

When Simone got to school, the seating arrangement for the exams had already been posted. Her seat was sixth from the end, with Claire sitting right in front of her.

When Claire spotted Simone, her eyes lit up. “Simone!” she exclaimed. “I read that notebook you gave me. It’s even more helpful than the teacher’s notes.”

As exam time drew closer, Claire suddenly remembered the notebook. Feeling bored, she flipped through a few pages, but to her surprise, solutions to the problems she hadn’t understood before started to appear clearly in her mind.

Over two nights, she managed to get through half of the notebook.

Compared to Claire’s enthusiasm, Simone was much more composed. “Of course. I told you, there’s no way you’d get expelled.”

Claire didn’t give much thought to what Simone said, but her pre–exam anxiety noticeably faded.

Before long, the proctor entered the classroom, and the entire exam room immediately fell silent.

The moment Simone took the test paper in her hands, memories of her past life came flooding back to her.

She had already completed the high school curriculum abroad, so just a quick glance at the questions was enough for her to know the answers–she didn’t even need scratch paper.

In her past life, any time Simone showed even a bit of talent, Norah and Stella would always come up with ways to make her life difficult. Even though Simone hadn’t done anything wrong, she would still end up being blamed by everyone.

Because of that, when she was part of the Spence family, she had to play the role of a completely useless daughter. Now, she was determined not to be seen as useless anymore.

‘Could Stella still remain composed?‘ Simone wondered. She could hardly wait to see Stella’s reaction after the monthly exams.

The next morning, all the exams were finally over, and the students returned to their classrooms. Claire was especially excited and hugged Simone tightly. “Simone, I love you so much. I really think I won’t have to drop out this time.”

Claire had never found exams to be so easy. In the past, every single one had been pure agony for her.

After calming down, she was worried about Simone and asked, “Enough about me. How did you do on your exams?”

“Pretty good, Simone said, with a confident smile and a look that showed she was totally sure of herself.

“That’s great. We can still be classmates,” Claire said, truly delighted.

At that moment, neither of them noticed the unfriendly gaze directed at them from not too far away.

After school that afternoon, Simone had just stepped out of the gate when she noticed that black Rolls–Royce Phantom again. It was clear that Cyrus was the one picking her up. Simone smoothly opened the car door and got in. “Why are you here?”

“What? Aren’t you happy that I came to pick you up?” This time, Cyrus didn’t bother making up an excuse like he usually did.

“Yes, of course,” Simone replied calmly. But the slight upward curve of her lips betrayed her current mood.

Cyrus glanced at Simone, making it look casual, and then let out a chuckle. ‘What a double–faced girl. She’s happy yet pretends to be cool, he thought.
