Ella’s POV
My body felt like a dead weight on me, numbness was the only feeling I could sense in my body.
If I had to describe my state, I would say that I was under a big boulder.
The memories were still floating in my mind.
Alpha Rambo, the cell, blood and wolfsbane.
I stood up with haste and what I saw made me reeling back to the sitting position. My knees became weak.
The room I found myself in was different from the dank dungeon where I’d been held before. It was cold, sterile, with no windows and only a single door across the far side of the room. Dim light filtered from an overhead fixture, casting long shadows on the walls. I struggled to sit up, my muscles weak but functioning. The chains were gone, but I was far from free.
This wasn’t Moon Lake territory. The scent in the air was different—no familiar markers, no sense of home. Wherever I was now, it was far from my pack.
My head throbbed as I tried to focus. Alpha Rambo’s face loomed large in my mind, his twisted smile as he injected me with wolfbane. Instinctively, I reached out to feel for Nathan and Tristan through the mate bond, but there was... nothing. My heart sank as the emptiness hit me like a punch to the gut. The bond had been severed. He’d done it. He’d broken the connection.
I squeezed my eyes shut, biting back the wave of panic that threatened to consume me. I couldn’t let this defeat me. Not yet.
A sudden click of the door opening jerked me from my thoughts.
Alpha Rambo stepped inside, his eyes gleamed with that same dark ambition, but there was something else now—surprise.
“I have to admit,” he said slowly, “you’ve proven more resilient than I anticipated, Ella. Most wolves would be unconscious for days after a dose of wolfbane like that. But you…” He circled me, his eyes flickering with a hint of fascination. “You’re stronger than I gave you credit for.”
He crouched beside me, his gaze piercing. “It’s unfortunate for you that strength won’t save you this time. Your mates won’t find you—not in time, anyway. I’ve severed your bond, and by now, I’m long gone from Moon Lake’s territory.”
The thought of Nathan and Tristan searching for me, helpless to sense where I was, nearly broke me. But I swallowed down the pain, forcing myself to focus. I couldn’t let him see the fear.
“What’s your plan, Rambo?” I asked, my voice hoarse but defiant. “Kill me after you’ve had your fun with the witch?”
A smirk tugged at his lips. “Fun isn’t the word I’d use. It’s more... research.” He stood, turning away as he spoke. “The witch needs more of your blood. A rare white wolf like you—your blood holds power. It’ll take three days to extract what she needs. Then, and only then, will you be... disposed of.”
Three days. That was all I had left. I clenched my fists, willing the weakness from my body, the remnants of the wolfbane still sluggish in my system.
Rambo turned back to face me, his expression hardening. “Consider yourself lucky, Ella. Few get to live this long after defying me.”
I met his gaze, hatred burning in my chest. “You’re a coward, Rambo.”
