"You can try," Lei Qian smiled at his grandmother. He took a step forward and the woman took a step backwards; her eyes flew to Old Master Lei, who was sitting upright on the bed, and a second later, she cried in anger, "You are not going to stop him? He wants to kill his grandmother in cold blood, and you are not going to say anything!"
Old Master Lei sighed heavily. He turned to look at his wife of more than fifty years. Once he had been a young soldier filled with dreams and ambitions, but because of Old Lady Lei, who schemed against him and slept with him when he was on the verge of getting promoted, it led to even more trouble, which caused him to work twice as hard.
However, Old Lady Lei never saw that it was her fault. In her eyes, she was supposed to become the wife of a chief, and when it didn't happen, she started making a fuss. Old Lady Lei wanted a big mansion with a car and servants, and all she got was a small house where she had to live as the wife of a poor and small soldier.
Old Master Lei had not forgotten the complaints that old madam Lei had made to him when the two of them got married. Even then, she had never seen her flaws and mistakes; she only saw the mistakes of others, even when there were none.
He pursed his lips and then said to his wife, "You insulted the mother of his child; of course, Ah Qian is going to be upset."
When Old Lady Lei heard her husband supporting Lei Qian, she was so angry that she wished she could slap him awake.
Lei Qian tried to kill her, and all her husband had was the nerve to scold her. How dare he!?
She gritted her teeth and said to him, "You… continue spoiling him. One of these days, see what kind of big trouble he will bring for our family." Turning around on her feet, she stormed out of the ward, and Second Uncle Lei followed in her wake; he was terrified out of his wits when he saw Lei Qian burning all the hair off his mother's head and wondered if he would do the same to him.
Once the two of them were gone, Lei Qian turned to look at his grandfather. Old Master Lei sighed and said to his grandson, "You need to control your temper. Even if you are no longer bound by the old laws, there is something new, isn't there? What do they call it? A base?"
"We are not bound by the base," replied Lei Qian as he sat down on the stool next to the bed. He crossed his legs at the shin before saying to his grandfather, "Even if the base's officials want to attack me, they will think twice. I don't think that they are foolish enough to do that yet."
Old Master Lei stared at his grandson for two seconds before sighing. He said to him, "And what about this woman? Is she the one you have been talking about since you were a child?"
Lei Qian's eyes turned warm when he heard his grandfather mention Bai Meiyue. He nodded and said to his grandfather, "You are right. She is the one."
