Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around! novel Chapter 152

James' heavy breathing and occasional coughs were heard in the ward.

Sophia smirked. "Nothing good, really. I just like to get on Mr. White’s bad side. The more upset and angry he is, the happier I feel. As for the so-called reputation, will that thing sustain me? Can that thing spare me from going to prison?"

"You… You..." James was so angry that he could not even complete a full sentence. He was just clutching his heart while panting non-stop.

Sophia took two steps toward him and fixed her gaze on him. She tugged at her lips and enunciated every single word, "You were asking me how heartless I can be, right? Well, I’m just like you. Who can I blame for having parts of my genes from you?"

"You—" James pointed at her and shouted till he was blue in the face before he suddenly closed his eyes and collapsed to the ground.

Jenny screamed with a pale face and bent down to shake him. Her tears were streaming down her face. "James, please wake up!"

Sophia pursed her lips. Her eyes flickered. She took a step forward but quickly retreated with a frown before sitting back on the hospital bed.

Next to her, Nicole darted Sophia a complicated look. She sighed lightly, then walked to the bed and pressed the emergency button.

"Serves him right!" Sterling said with a cold look on his face. Even so, he still said to Nicole, "Go and get the doctor. Who knows if this broken emergency button actually works!"

Nicole nodded and trotted out. Not long after she went out, she ran into the doctors and nurses who were rushing over. She hurriedly explained the situation to them before returning to the ward with them.

The doctors and nurses sent James to the emergency room after more than ten minutes of chaos. Jenny and Nicole followed along. The siblings were the only ones left in the ward.

Sterling kicked the hospital bed several times dejectedly. He turned his head and asked Sophia, "Do you blame me?"

"What's there to blame? He did me wrong. He didn’t do you any wrong, though." Sophia lowered her eyes and replied in an indifferent and weary manner.

They both knew who Sophia was referring to when she mentioned ‘he’.

Sophia got out of bed and turned off the light, then laid down on the bed and covered herself with a blanket. Neither of them slept nor spoke until the sound of the door opening broke the silence an hour and a half later.

The person walked in with feather-light footsteps, seemingly afraid to wake the two lying on the hospital bed.

"We’re not asleep. You can switch on the lights." Sophia turned over. She looked at Jenny standing at the door and Nicole behind her with the light that shone in from the crack of the door.

Jenny chuckled in an embarrassed manner and asked cautiously, "Did I wake you up?"

"What is it?" Sophia did not answer her but frowned and asked impatiently instead.

Jenny was slightly hurt by her attitude, yet she still tried her best to smile and say, "I came here to tell you that your dad is okay. You don't have to feel pressured in any way because of this."

"You must be joking, Madam White. I won’t feel pressured in any way no matter what happens to Mr. White." Sophia's face looked pale and heartless under the incandescent light.

Jenny looked at her incredulously, wiping the tears from the corners of her eyes as she said, "Why have you turned out this way, Soph? He’s still your dad no matter what!"

Fearing that these words would irritate Sophia, Nicole hurriedly tugged at the corner of Jenny’s shirt and signaled her not to say anymore.

However, Sophia was simply staring coldly at Jenny without the slightest crack in her countenance because of those words.
