“Please do your best no matter what, Dr. Hemingway. I will give you anything you want as long as it is within my ability," Charles said.
Victor looked at him and sneered. “I can obtain the things that you can give me all by myself, Mr. Harris."
There seemed to be clashing swords when they engaged in a staredown.
"Are we having acupuncture today?" Sophia broke the silence.
It was only then did Victor retract his gaze. He looked at her leg several times and said, "Let’s not be too hasty. Why don’t you come again the day after tomorrow?"
"Okay. Thank you, Dr. Hemingway," Sophia said. She and Charles left the hospital in silence. On the way, his damp blouse had attracted many curious and blunt stares.
At the entrance of the hospital, a Bentley was parked there with a large part of its front dented.
Looking at the car with a large patch of its paint scraped off as well as a broken headlight and rearview mirror, Sophia pursed her lips. She was hesitant to speak.
"Not this one. It’s the one in front." Charles reached out to hold her hand and walked forward.
His palm was very hot and covered in a layer of sweat. He wrapped Sophia’s hand firmly in it. She tried to struggle but could not break away. As such, she simply allowed him to pull her as they walked forward.
The two finally came to an extended version of a Lincoln.
The driver hopped out of the car and opened the door for the two of them. Then, he stood on one side reverently. Sophia got in the car first. Charles went in after her and sat next to her.
Yvette was in the car as well. After seeing Charles' outfit, she raised the corner of her eye slightly and said to the driver who had just gotten in, "Go to Bamboo Virtues Village."
"Okay, Ma'am," the driver replied.
The car engine revved up smoothly.
Yvette turned to Sophia and frowned after seeing her face. "Who did this to you?"
"I’m fine," Sophia said.
Yvette frowned and touched her face gently. "Are you injured elsewhere other than your face?"
"No," Sophia said, "Thanks for your concern, Aunt Harris."
She could not describe what it felt like to be shown care and concern by Aunt Harris right now after she failed to run away from Charles with Master Harris’ help.
Yvette sighed softly, took her hand, and said, “You don’t have to thank me, silly child."
She then said something else before saying, "Is it true that Master Harris planned to send you to prison?"
"Yeah, but Mr. Phillips messed up his plan by mistake." Sophia did not go into the details. After a pause, she said, "But I think Master Harris will give up on this idea for now."
Yvette's gaze fell on her stomach. After hesitating several times, she asked, "It’s because of the child in your belly?"
Sophia's eyelashes trembled a few times after hearing what she said. There was a trace of dilemma in her eyes. She was still thinking about whether she should tell the truth when the sound of a phone vibrating interrupted her thoughts.
Yvette answered the phone and said hello. After hearing what was said on the other end of the call, her expression turned increasingly awful. "What? Sterling went to Master Harris because of Soph?"
"!" Sophia’s heart fell with a thump. ‘Oh no,’ she thought. She should have called Sterling to tell him that she was safe as soon as she escaped from Master Harris’ clutches.
It was too late to say anything now. She extended her hand toward Charles who was sitting next to her. He looked like he was lost in his thoughts. "Let me use your phone."
Charles snapped back to his senses and handed her his phone in silence.
