Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around! novel Chapter 237

Sophia raised her eyebrows, walked up to him in a few steps, and said sarcastically, "The Jones family drove you into a corner? How?"

James looked at the bone-piercingly cold hatred in her eyes and took a step back unknowingly.

"Didn't you break off ties with me because Charles threatened you? Why are you putting all the blame on the Jones family now? You don’t have the guts to criticize Charles in front of his face?" Sophia took another step forward. Her gaze was locked on his face like a magnet.

Her aggressiveness put James in a tight spot. He looked at her with a frown. "Charles is still here, do you even know what you’re talking about?"

"The truth," Charles said before Sophia could answer.

James smiled awkwardly, not making a sound.

"Let's go, I want to go back." Sophia paused, then added, "... to eat the food you cook."

James could barely control the expression on his face when he heard the last sentence. A look of clear stupefaction was shown on his face.

"Okay." Charles reached out and took her hand.

Sophia wanted to shake him off at first, but when she glanced at James, she did not struggle to break free and allowed Charles to pull her out compliantly.

Jenny walked out wearing an apron, wiping her hands on it. Her tone carried a trace of ingratiation and pleading when she said, "Soph, I made your favorite dishes. Why don’t you stay and have a meal with us before you go?"

"Yeah." James did not look like he just had a quarrel with Sophia. He said, "Your mother hasn't cooked for a long time. It’s because you’re here, that's why she’s cooking especially for you."

Jenny nodded repeatedly and looked eagerly at Sophia.

Sophia clenched her fists, tugged at her lips, and said mildly, "No, thank you… Madam White."

She did not stay any longer and walked out of the White family with a deadpan look on her face.

The Bentley was sent for repair, so they took a cab back to Bamboo Virtues Village because Charles did not drive a car here. Sophia went upstairs without a word as soon as she entered the door.

"I'll prepare two dishes. Go and wait in the living room," Charles said.

Sophia did not stop nor respond.

"I’ll go upstairs and call you once I’m done." By now, his blouse was already dry, but there was the smell of sweat lingering on it. Charles unbuttoned his blouse and took it off.

The wound on his abdomen was not fully healed yet, but the gauze had been removed. The wound looked tender and soft when compared to the skin around it, making it look like a fierce centipede.

Sophia stopped dead in her tracks and turned around to look at him. Her gaze fell on the wound on his abdomen before quickly shifting it away.

"Can you give me some personal space? I beg you, please?" Her indifferent voice sounded weary and hoarse.

Charles raised his head and looked at her. That weary and worn-out gaze was not supposed to exist at all.

On his well-defined forearm, his blue veins were bulging out. Then, he dropped his head to avoid her gaze and nodded almost imperceptibly.

It was only then did Sophia turn around and hobble upstairs whilst holding onto the railing.

Since she did not want to eat, Charles was in no mood to cook either. He walked to the couch and sat down, his back leaning against it. His gaze was deep.

Suddenly, his phone started vibrating.
