Madam Jones hurried over as soon as she heard Charles.
With so many people present right then, it was hard for Mr. Phillips and the rest of them to run away. They had no choice but to brace themselves for Madam Jones as well as Mr. Jones and William who rushed over.
Frankly, William did not like how they were behaving, kneeling on the ground like beggars begging people for help. It made him feel worthless and undignified.
However, with the Jones family’s current situation, if they did not find alternatives to save themselves, Jones Group might face bankruptcy. He could not just sit aside and watch.
“It’s getting a bit cold, let me get you a new one.” Charles ignored what was happening at their side and reached for the hot water pad in Sophia’s hands, then ordered someone to replace it with a new one.
Sophia had always felt weak and personally attacked whenever Charles saw through her mind, but watching Mr. Phillips and the other men now, she suddenly felt comforted.
She was not the weak one, he was just too good.
“Just wait a bit more, it should be over soon.” Charles was worried that she was getting bored waiting in the corner.
“I actually wish it would go on longer,” Sophia mumbled.
Then, the so-called ‘screenplay’ Sylvia had written for her would have to wait a while longer. After all, she was anxious about what was to come, going up against Sylvia and the mysterious bigshot.
She had a feeling that things might get out of control!
“What?” Her voice was so soft that Charles did not hear what she said.
“Nothing.” Sophia shook her head.
With the recording device on her, there was nothing she could say.
Charles’ gaze lingered on her purse where the recording device was kept and clenched his fists, then quickly uncurled them.
Just be patient for a little while longer! He was close to finding out who the bigshot was!
Once this was resolved, he would never let her be wronged anymore!
His penetrative gaze stayed on Sophia and she could not help but look up at him and asked, “What’s wrong?”
He seemed like he had something on his mind.
“I just miss you.” Charles smiled and reached out to cup her face before planting a kiss on her lips.
Sophia stiffened all over. Was she not right in front of him right now? By the time she recovered, he had already let her go and several people were staring in their direction, clearly muttering under their breaths.
“This is your grandfather’s funeral, you should be more mindful.” Her face heated up slightly. She was worried that people would take this opportunity to gossip and criticize him for being unfilial or worse.
Charles casually glanced around and tapped her nose. “What are you scared of?”
Once this matter was settled, she would never be threatened by anyone, and she need not be afraid of anyone anymore.
Truth be told, Sophia was not exactly afraid. She was just concerned that his reputation might be affected, but he seemed to be unbothered.
Not far away from them, the Phillips, Sommer, and Johnson families were still in the middle of what seemed to be a heated discussion with the Jones family. Several people had joined them as well and the situation seemed to be much more chaotic than before.
“Sophia!” Clara skipped over and wanted to give Sophia a hug, but Charles suddenly stepped forward and positioned himself right in front of Sophia, and so Clara immediately stopped in her tracks.
Whew!
What a close call, she had almost run into Big Iceberg!
