“I’ll take you home now and we can go collect our marriage license.”

He did not care about Harris Corporation and all the scheming anymore. All he ever wanted was to marry Sophia and become husband and wife, then they would have two kids and live a simple life together as a happy family.

Why did God deprive him of such a simple wish?

Tears fell on Sophia’s face. It was cold, yet it warmed her heart.

She had never seen Charles cry. In fact, she did not even know he was capable of crying.

At this moment, she could barely control the pain in her chest. She wanted to just tell him that she was not dead, that she was still alive!

However, it was not possible.

This was the only way she could try to find out what Sylvia’s plan was. If she suddenly ‘rose up from the dead’, all the pain and suffering she had gone through would go to waste.

Sylvia and the mysterious bigshot would only continue with their plan only if she was dead, and she had to let this happen so she could find out what their goal was!

“Marriage license? Shame on you to think that you can still wed Soph! I handed Soph to you, and what kind of bodyguards did you hire for her in the end?”

Sterling barged forward and grabbed Charles by the collar. He lifted him off the ground and punched him in the face.

Charles could have easily dodged the attack, but he remained still and accepted it quietly.

If he had rejected her idea back when Sophia told him about Sylvia, if he had said no to her agreeing to play along with his grandmother’s plan to bait the bigger fish, if he had switched to another team of bodyguards the second she told him about this, none of this would have happened!

“You talk about how much you like Soph and how you will never let anyone hurt her, but have you just been bullsh*tting? Ah? Why didn’t you check the bodyguards properly when you hired them?”

Sterling yanked Charles’ by his collar furiously and continued punching him. “I must have gone insane to have handed Soph to you! Give me back my sister now!”

Charles pursed his lips as he stared back at Sterling blankly. His eyes were completely hollow and empty, and he was just like a soulless body.

The person he had cared about the most and their baby were dead now. So what if he had anything else in the world?

Victor could not hold back his shock when he saw the scene before him.

He had always thought that Charles’ feelings for Sophia were not that deep. After all, he did break her leg and did so many hurtful things to her…

However, it seemed that he was wrong. The love Charles had for Sophia was much more than he had ever imagined.

“Stop fighting! What’s the use of hitting Mr. Harris now?” Nicole ran over and pulled Sterling away. “Soph is Mr. Harris’ girlfriend, he must be as miserable as you are now that Soph is dead!”

She glanced at Sophia’s scorched body and could not help but wince.

How much did Soph suffer before she died?

“You’re right, there’s no use beating him up, nor will it do us any good if I hit myself!” Sterling beat his chest with his fist in frustration. Everything that had happened to the White family recently was so overwhelming he could barely hold himself together anymore.

His throat tightened and his voice was hoarse as he said, “If I had stayed by Soph’s side at the funeral, she wouldn’t have gotten into this! Even if I hadn’t, I should have suspected something was wrong when the bodyguards approached me after the funeral! Then, she wouldn’t have died like this!”

It was all his fault. He was too useless as a brother, not being able to even keep his sister safe!

Soph… It was his stupidity that ultimately killed Soph!

Seeing how distraught the two men were, Nicole forced herself to keep herself together. She turned to the doctors and nurses and said, “Excuse me, can you please get us an empty room? We would like to have a little more time with Soph.”

Both the White and Harris family were still reputable families in the city, it was not ideal for their moments of weakness to be seen by outsiders.

If by any chance anyone in the room spoke about this in public and word got out, the two families would be embarrassed as well.

The doctors and nurses discussed with each other for a short moment before moving Sophia to the designated wards that the Harris family used.

Knowing how severe Sophia’s injuries were, Victor was worried that the medical staff would hurt her when they carried her over, and so he quickly followed after them.
