Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around! novel Chapter 427

“I just saw two people carrying a huge storage box from Soph’s room. May I know what was it?”

The storage box was made of blue plastic, so when it was under the sunlight, she could not help but think that she saw a black shadow in the box that seemed like a human figure.

“It’s nothing, just some medical waste.” Victor’s eye twitched. Did she see something that aroused her suspicions?

Still, Nicole did not buy his explanation. “Aren’t medical waste usually just tubes or bottles? The storage box seemed quite heavy though, I noticed the two people carrying it quite laboriously.”

“Yes, those are the usual medical waste but there are the occasional machines that we don’t use anymore so we sell as scrap.” Victor had not expected her to witness the move and he could not think of a reasonable excuse right away.

“Is that so?” The more he explained, the more doubtful Nicole was toward the logicality of his reasons. “I don’t remember seeing any old machines in Soph’s room just now though, and besides…”

She paused and pointed at the room where Sophia was hiding right now. “That’s a hospital as well, right? Why did they store medical waste in the room then?”

Ever since Sylvia had set her up with pretend-nannies with her and her children, she had been extremely vigilant and did not believe just anyone lightly.

Victor had been spouting unreasonable excuses left and right to the point that were beginning to make no sense. If he tried to come up with another excuse, Nicole might see through his lies and become even suspicious toward him.

“Mrs. White, do you… suspect that I did something?” Victor asked.

Nicole looked at him. “I’m just asking, please don’t think too much, Dr. Hemingway.”

Although those were the words that came out of her mouth, the suspicion in her eyes was evident.

“My Aunt Lucy has always nagged me to take care of Ms. White and I have kept my word all this while. Mrs. White, I believe you have witnessed this as well,” Victor said.

Nicole said nothing, and her silence confirmed his words.

Aunt Lucy, Victor, and Madam Davis had always been kind to Soph.

“Mrs. White, do you think I’ll turn against her or her family just because she’s gone now?” Victor asked.

Certainly not. However, Nicole kept quiet still, feeling quite embarrassed at the situation.

“Or perhaps you think that I stole something from you or Ms. White from the hospital room. Is that the case, Mrs. White?”

He hardened his tone when he posed his questions, and he even made sure that there was a subtle hint of anger and annoyance of being suspected.

Nicole had entered the room earlier just now. Aside from the slightly wrinkled white bedsheets and the burnt corpse that seemed slightly less charred, there was not much difference.

“... I’m sorry. I think I’m just a bit too tense because a lot of things have happened recently. If I offended you in any way, please do forgive me, Dr. Hemingway,” Nicole said dryly.

“A lot has happened to the White family recently. It’s fine, I can understand.” Seeing that she finally believed his words, Victor let out a breath of relief as his heartbeat steadied. “However, I hope you understand that I will never do anything that would hurt Ms. White.”

Well, it was Ms. White’s decision to keep the truth from everyone else.

“Sorry I overstepped just now,” Nicole apologized once more.

She was not exactly wrong in this, and so Victor did not want to dwell on this anymore in case she got doubtful again.
