The military officers and SWAT officers followed right behind him while lugging Charles and the Cox brothers with them.
“Charles, you——” Sterling called out. He was about to run after them but Yvette stopped him. “Don’t go after them, Ster.”
The group of men continued walking ahead and soon disappeared from Sterling’s sight.
Sterling had not expected Charles to protect him at a critical moment as such. Worried and exasperated, he turned to Yvette. “Aunt Harris, how can you just watch Charles get taken away like this? Is there nothing you can do?”
The Harris and Cox families were not people whom anyone could easily provoke.
Aunt Harris was part of both the Harris and Cox family so she should not even tolerate such treatment!
Yvette rubbed her temples gently and looked at Sylvia who was bandaging Jax’s wounds. Instead of responding to his statement, she changed the topic. “Where is Soph? I would like to see her.”
She had not expected Soph to be caught in the crossfire of both the Harris and Cox family and their other rivalries.
If she had known, she would not have helped Soph pursue Charles. If that was the case, things would not have turned out the way they did and Soph would have been better off, no?

“Mrs. White, I can choose not to accept your apology, can’t I?” Victor said with a small frown.
Nicole replied with an embarrassed laugh. “I acted too rashly just now and said some offensive things to you, it’s only right for you to stay angry at me, Dr. Hemingway. However, whether you want to accept my apology, I still have to apologize to you and let you know that I’m sorry.”
She took a bow and continued in a sincere tone, “I’m sorry, Dr. Hemingway. I would also like to thank you for all your care toward Soph in the past. Truly, thank you very much.”
“Are you done apologizing? If so, you can leave now, Mrs. White.” Victor sneered.
He understood where she was coming from and he knew why she would suspect him but he needed a valid excuse so he could stay here in the room.
Moreover, it was only natural for him to pretend to be furious after being ‘misunderstood’ like that. It was a normal reaction for the average person. He would only come off as suspicious if he was not upset at all.
Nicole fidgeted her hands and she seemed quite flustered. She wanted to apologize again but there was nothing more she could say. It was meaningless for her to repeat the same thing over and over again.
“Mrs. White, you’re not asking me to help keep Ms. White company again, are you?” Victor snorted lightly before continuing, “My Aunt Lucy has always nagged me to take good care of Ms. White, yet I was deeply misunderstood by you. It doesn’t make sense for me to continue looking after Ms. White’s body now, does it?”
Nicole let out an awkward, dry cough. “It’s all my fault for what happened earlier and I sincerely apologize to you, Dr. Hemingway. Alright then, I’ll… leave now.”
After how bad she had doubted the doctor just now, no apology of hers would make him forget about what happened.
The only thing she could do now was to let it pass and visit him sometime later bearing gifts for another apology.
Victor said nothing as he opened the door, silently motioning for her to leave the room.
Nicole bowed at him once again before turning to leave.
Dr. Hemingway could think whatever he wanted, but she could not stay here any longer. Soph was all alone in the room now so she had to go back to keep her company…
Victor stood by the door and watched as she entered the room where ‘Sophia’ was supposedly at before he went back into the room and closed the door after him.
“Ms. White?” He looked around the room and called out gently.
With the injuries she bore, there was no way she could have left the room all by herself.
Knock knock!
A soft knocking sound came from the small cabinet by the bed.
