Taylor, rather loudly, cleared her throat.
"I am still here, Captain. Please keep your seductions to a moderate level when I am still in the room, please." Taylor’s cheeks were flushed and Rhys laughed, pulling the shirt up over Kellen’s head before he nodded, his eyes more bright then they had been since he’d found out.
"Sorry Green. It’s just so easy to get distracted by Kellen. Especially in his Field Guide uniform." Taylor rolled her eyes, while Kellen scrambled to get the monitor pads on his chest. Rhys was already hooked up, so it was just sitting down on the hard, plastic chair that was his next step.
All day today Kellen had either avoided sitting down, or had sat down on soft surfaces. This was because he hadn’t brought it up, but his ass hurt. It was sore, swollen, and every time he sat down on a hard surface he remembered what he and Rhys had done the night prior.
When he hesitated for a second, glancing up at Rhys, Rhys had a damn smirk on his face.
"What’s the problem, Kellen?" Rhys asked sweetly. "Is your thigh hurting?" Damn that man. He knew mentioning that would get Taylor worried, and then she would-
"Are you alright?" She asked and Kellen grumbled.
"I’m fine. Ignore him. The cream you gave me is working wonders, I just haven’t sat on a plastic chair in a while." Taylor gave him a strange look and Kellen glared at Rhys. Rhys chuckled as Kellen finally sat down, his ass throbbing. Rhys stared at him, a damn smirk on his face.
"Don’t worry Kellen, you don’t need to worry about plastic chairs tonight." Rhys told him and Kellen gave him the finger. Rhys laughed and offered out his hand. Kellen, flustered, wiped his hand on his pants before he took Rhys’ in his own.
Taylor, thankfully, counted them in then, and Kellen jumped into Rhys willingly, worried about the state he was in.
He was right to worry. The waves were giant swells, the ocean aggressive, demanding, and dangerous. Rainbows glittered in the caps of the waves every once in a while, so it wasn’t as if all the hard work Kellen had done had gone to waste. It was just that the man himself was very turbulent.
There was a reason surges often happened after someone close to the Esper was injured. The ties between emotion and powers of Espers and Guides alike were known, but not well researched. Or, people were too afraid to know how intrinsically they were tied. There was fear in the unknown, but there was also fear in knowing too much.
Kellen rolled his shoulders and set to work. They were still monitoring the average of their guiding sessions, so he couldn’t go all out like he wanted to. Instead, he was going to have to do a lot of work up in his apartment. That was fine, he just needed to tame these damn waves so he didn’t drown.
He sprinkled his guiding in the form of rocks into the ocean, watching as they smashed and shattered against the rocks below the water. The darkness of the sky wasn’t anything he could do, nor could he do anything about the storm clouds lingering on the horizon. He just needed to focus on the waves for now.
Slowly, the swells dipped, but it wasn’t enough for Kellen’s satisfaction. Taylor had to call him out of the session today, and Kellen came out with a frown on his face. Rhys looked worried.
"Am I that bad?" He asked. "I haven’t gone over on using my powers today." He muttered and Kellen and Taylor shared a look. It took Rhys a second to realise what it was and his mouth firmed. "I’ll be fine by tomorrow." He promised and Kellen sighed. He took off the pads on his chest while Rhys did the same.
"I’m not upset, Rhys. I’m just worried about you." Kellen told him and Rhys froze.
"Oh. Sorry. You were just frowning so I-"
"Rhys, it’s my job and my privilege to worry about you, so just let me." Kellen scolded and watched as Rhys’ cheeks flushed. Taylor cleared her throat.
"Kellen, stop flirting with the Captain in front of me. You know I don’t have time to date right now." Kellen tossed a glare in her direction.
"I am not flirting with him, I am stating facts. As his pair, it’s my job and my privilege to take care of him in his entirety." Kellen wouldn’t lie and say he didn’t feel like bragging about that. With other Espers, he was just a Guide. A man who could take them to a safer place, but who he couldn’t care about deeply. With Rhys, he could do that.
He was allowed to care for all aspects of him. His personal life, his public life, and everything in between. Now that they were...dating, Kellen could even care about his sexual life as well. It was a big deal, and filled Kellen with endless pride. He was the pair of the Captain of the Saturn Guild.
Kellen Woods, the former C Class Guide, had a pair.
