Kellen shifted where he stood, staring at Lieutenant Fisher who seemed to have a rather grim expression on his face. He knew that even if his Mom had moved away, she had perked up upon hearing those words.
Everyone in the room had something against them, but the Woods’ in particular did. Kellen could feel how everyone’s gaze turned to him, and Kellen stared intently at Lieutenant Fisher, ignoring their looks.
"What did you find?" Kellen asked, realising that no one else was going to ask, not even Sakura. Lieutenant Fisher cleared his throat, shuffling a few papers around on his desk. From his background, Kellen was able to tell he was in the office that Rhys and Kellen had visited after Charlie’s test.
"Well, the reason for calling this emergency meeting is that one of the main uh...they don’t really define themselves, so the easiest equivalent would be lieutenant, has been spotted in the city. We found out that through the person who most recently shot you, Kellen, that they have been the one planning and moving throughout the city. They arrived about 6 months ago and apparently had a bigger, more damaging plan. Everything that we’ve seen so far is just the beginning." Lieutenant Fisher’s words sent a shiver down almost everyone’s spines.
Kellen’s mouth firmed as he heard the words. He wasn’t exactly surprised to hear it. The A. E. G. had been around for at least a few years, and since they had been overseas, Kellen hadn’t paid too much attention to them, but did pay attention when they came up in the news. They had done several attacks, killing several prominent Guides and Esper couples across the world.
It wasn’t a new tactic, since monsters who wanted to ruin people’s lives because they didn’t want others to be happy had always existed, but they had become prolific at it for years. Kellen suspected that they might have been behind the death of his Uncles, but he didn’t want to give these sickos so much control.
If they had just been a group who was upset about their treatment, or the fact that they weren’t able to receive guiding because of conditions or lack of compatibility, Kellen might have felt more sympathy for them.
Instead, they had gone full terrorist mode, and wanted to ruin others lives so that everyone could be miserable, and wanted full control of everything. It disgusted Kellen, and he could feel his blood boil as he realised that a ’Lieutenant’ of this organisation had almost been in the city as long as he had.
That fuck.
"So, if you are saying this information, add with the fact you called an emergency meeting, do you have any idea where they are?" Kellen asked, and Lieutenant Fisher blinked, along with everyone else. Kellen didn’t think it was a crazy question, but everyone looked like they hadn’t expected that in the slightest. "Did you call an emergency meeting just to tell us you knew that someone of the equivalent of a Lieutenant was in the city?" Kellen asked, shifting on his feet.
He crossed his arms, staring at Lieutenant Fisher, really hoping that wasn’t true.
Lieutenant Fisher looked flustered, if not a little embarrassed. Kellen was astounded. Did they think that everyone had the time to have meetings like this? That you should just call a meeting whenever any little thing was found?
It was a good piece of information, but this could have also been sent through a secure source, it didn’t have to be through a meeting like this.
Kellen thought back to when Rhys had freaked out, right after he had rejected Kellen’s guiding. If they were calling meetings for things like this, no wonder his temper had been so short. Kellen let out a snort, covering his mouth when everyone looked at him.
"Lieutenant Fisher? Was that all you called the meeting for?" Kellen repeated and the man looked even more flustered.
"I-It was, Guide Woods. We have boots on the ground, of course, but so far nothing has come out of our investigation. I just wanted to update everyone on what was going on." Kellen didn’t think he had the authority to demean them, since he had been absent from the city for a few years, but this was ridiculous. How was one meant to run their own Guild if this was what they were calling meetings for? Was this happening before the gate and terrorist attacks were happening?
Was it a way for the D. E. C. to keep a grip on the Guilds in the city even if the Espers weren’t officially attached to them anymore?
"Well, if that is everything, I am quite busy, so I will have to leave the call first." Kellen told them, glancing towards the Esper who had been helping him with the broadcast. The Esper was just about to cut it when Uncle Tom grew flustered.
"Wait! Are you seriously about to leave so suddenly?" He demanded, desperation in his tone and Kellen gave him a confused look.
