Chapter 392: A car is a car

When they got down to the garage, Rhys took the lead. Holding Kellen’s hand still, he had a nice, slightly goofy smile on his face as he led Kellen past the two door car that he had got him and down the slope of the garage to some more cars that he owned.

Kellen was serious when he said that his Dad shouldn’t be allowed down here, but then again, if something had happened...maybe he should allow him to come down here. It might cheer him up.

Kellen was still mulling over it when Rhys came to a stop, tugging on Kellen’s hand so that he didn’t run into him. Kellen took a moment to realise what car they had stopped in front of.

It was a four door, so Kellen assumed it sat at least four people. It looked like a normal black car from the back. He wasn’t so sure what was so special about it, even as Rhys gave him a look like he was expecting some kind of praise.

"Well? What do you think?" He asked, excited, and Kellen just stared at the car. He wasn’t like his Dad. He didn’t really care about all the cool gadgets and gizmos that came with cars. He just wanted to make sure the car worked, got from one place to the next, etc.

"I think it’s nice? It’s black?" Kellen said, trying to be supportive, and Rhys sighed, shaking his head. He tugged Kellen up behind him as he went towards the driver’s side of the car. They had to squeeze in between this car, and another that looked just like it, but in a custom yellow colour. A colour that matched Rhys’ eyes.

"I should have known better." Rhys muttered, and Kellen felt a slight twinge in his chest. Was Rhys upset? He didn’t want to make him upset.

"I’m sorry. I just-" Rhys spun quickly, pressing a finger into Kellen’s lips, silencing him.

"You don’t need to apologise. That’s not what I’m saying. I just know you won’t be impressed until I tell you about the car. I know you don’t really know anything about cars, or at least not until you’ve been told about them. I know your Dad is into cars, I had just thought some of it had been absorbed through osmosis, but not as much as I thought stuck around." Rhys didn’t look angry at all, and Kellen let out a sigh of relief.

"Oh thank goodness. I was worried you were upset with me." Rhys stared at Kellen, his open expression, and leaned in, kissing his lips quickly.

"You’re so damn handsome." Rhys murmured, causing Kellen to blush. He had no idea what brought on his declaration, but Kellen felt that he wasn’t allowed to be the only one declaring things.

"You’re even more handsome." Kellen countered, his face flaming, and Rhys laughed.

"What a handsome pair we make, hmm? Now come here, sugar. You can open this car the same way you open your own, with your fingerprint." Kellen nodded, letting Rhys guide him through the process, his hand holding Kellen’s wrist as they pressed his thumb into the little finger divot.

When the car acknowledged that Kellen was one of the owners, the car made a soft beeping noise and the door unlocked. Rhys grinned as he opened the door for Kellen and Kellen was able to see the interior was all leather, with all the gizmos he’d expect of someone like Rhys. Rhys pressed another kiss against Kellen’s cheek, motioning for him to enter and Rhys would close the door behind him.

Kellen did so, getting his bearings around himself, adjusting things as Rhys came in from the passenger side after closing the door behind him. While Kellen adjusted mirrors and the like, Rhys took the moment to hook up Kellen’s phone so that he was able to call his Mom while they were driving. Kellen was appreciative of the action, and once everything was set up, the car was running, and everything felt right, Kellen leaned towards Rhys.

"Rhys? Lean over for me please." Rhys seemed to have no idea what Kellen wanted, but did as he was asked. Kellen pressed his lips against the other man’s, running his tongue along the other man’s lips until he allowed him in. Kellen kissed him deeply, but on a budget. They were on their way to pick up his parents, so they couldn’t sully the car before then.

Kellen pulled back, wiping his bottom lip as Rhys sat there, his face flushed, surprise on his face.

"Thank you for your help." Kellen told him and Rhys cleared his throat, a bright smile touching his face.

"O-Oh. You’re welcome." Rhys coughed, as Kellen gave him a boyish grin, put the car in reverse, and headed on their way out.

It was as Kellen was driving towards the airport that Rhys began to tell him about the car. It was an old world build, something that had lasted from the before times.

Before the gates had begun to take over the world.

Its bases had been changed out for more sturdy material now that metals from the gates were proven to be better than earth metal, but the base intention of the car remained the same. It was a tank. A tank that was made to look like a normal car. Kellen didn’t know because he hadn’t opened nor closed the door so he didn’t know that the car weighed over 4 tonnes. Each door had a base minimum weight, and you had to be at least a C Class to own one since you wouldn’t be able to open the doors of the car.

Kellen was surprised to hear that, and when Kellen looked over at Rhys, he had a lazy smile on his face.

"A base Class to own a car?" Kellen had asked and Rhys grinned.

"If you ever got tired, I was planning to offer my services to open the door for you. All gentleman behaviour." Rhys told him, a sparkle in his yellow eyes.
