Casper was the first to offer up a few suggestions as Kellen and Brent tried not to get overwhelmed at the amount of Guides who wanted to become like them.
The first thing he suggested was for Kellen and Brent to only take the first twenty Guides who had applied for the program. Kellen, who had been thinking the same thing, relaxed as soon as someone with more experience confirmed his thoughts.
Casper then offered that they should host their first class, their first lesson somewhere fun. Kellen, who had been thinking of using the obstacle room as their first location, was pleased that Casper was thinking along the same lines as him.
After that, Casper told them that they had done a fantastic job, gave them both a pat on the back, and headed back to the Guiding Division. Kellen, who knew he needed to speak to Casper, but couldn’t remember why he needed to speak to Casper, went to stop him for a few seconds. Casper noticed Kellen’s hesitation and paused.
"Was there anything you needed, Kellen?" He asked, and Kellen grew confused. He hummed for a second, before shrugging.
"I know there was something I was supposed to talk to you about, but it’s escaping my mind. Maybe I’ll remember later." Kellen told him. Casper’s expression relaxed, and he nodded.
"Of course. Just message me if you remember. I’m probably going to take lunch a little later, so you two go ahead without me." The two Field Guides nodded, and Casper gave them a smile and a small wave before leaving for good.
Brent, once everyone was out of the room, collapsed on one of the chairs, tilting his head back and sighing heavily.
"Fuck. There were so many people." He complained, and Kellen chuckled.
"You’re right. That was more than I thought would show up." Kellen told him, closing down the laptop and putting it back into the laptop bag. He placed the bag on the table, zipping it up before also sitting down and sighing. Brent chuckled.
"Overwhelmed, huh? It’s going to be a lot, Kellen. You wouldn’t have been able to handle it on your own." Kellen was also coming to terms with that too. He had thought that at most, 10 people were going to be interested in becoming a Field Guide.
The school that he had gone to as a teen had only about 4 students at a time. The reason it was still running was because it was mandated by the government. It wasn’t in a pretty place in town either, but it only took serious students. The classes always started with more kids, and then were carved down until only the most serious Guide’s remained.
Obviously, Kellen was one of those serious kids, and he had a good connection with his teachers. Which only made Kellen more confused that so many other people wanted to join his program, specifically. There were better teachers, better classes, and better programs out there. What was different about Kellen?
Brent snorted, lacing his hands together behind his head as he leaned back in his chair. "Thank the gods you decided to hire me, huh? Who else would be able to help you? Not any other type of Guide, that’s for sure." Kellen chuckled, glancing over at Brent.
"Are you rubbing in the fact that the other Field Guide I was going to select is currently M.I.A. in a gate?" Kellen asked, a slight teasing tone to his voice. Brent snorted.
"Not at all. It didn’t even cross my mind. Since I would never be so foolish as to go into a gate without all of the preparation done. I would have asked for the hazard suits after realizing what the surroundings of the gate had turned into." Kellen wanted to laugh at Brent’s response, but knew that was callous. A whole team was missing, and he hadn’t heard any good news about them yet. They probably weren’t going to send in another team after them since that would mean the loss of two groups potentially.
