Ryan paused briefly before saying empathetically. "Uncle Idris, I know I didn’t treat her right and made some mistakes that I shouldn’t have. But for my mistakes, you can’t support Arwen’s reckless decision of marrying some stranger who’s not capable of treating her right."

Idris’s steps slowed at his words before coming to a complete halt right before the door. Seeing him stop like that, Ryan thought that his words had finally made some positive impact on the man.

But just when he would have continued it, Idris’s sharp voice snapped him, forcing reality right on his face.

"Who are you to decide that?" Idris asked, slowly turning around to face him again. His gaze was as sharp as ever, giving no concession to Ryan’s empathetic attitude.

Ryan’s brows furrowed. "What do you mean?" he asked, for a moment confused about what the man was referring to.

Idris’s expression no once changed. He simply stared at him and repeated in a way that clarified his question to Ryan. "I asked who are you to decide if he is capable of treating Arwen right or not? Did you meet him and guessed his incapability? Or have you seen him treating her wrong and unfairly as you treated her once?"

At the reminder, Ryan’s expression hardened. "Uncle Idris, I asked someone to look into his details. He is a man thrice your age, clearly married Arwen to reap some advantages off her. What can be more wrong than his intention?"

"No," Idris shook his finger at him and then continued, "It’s not him that is wrong. It’s you. You are wrong to investigate something that’s not related to you. So, it’s not his intention that’s wrong, rather yours."

"Uncle Idris, do you know what you are saying?" No longer able to take it, Ryan felt frustrated. Running his hand through his hair, he said, "I was concerned about Arwen that’s why I asked someone to investigate that man. How can I be wrong? Shouldn’t my concern seem more understandable here?"

"It doesn’t," Idris said without any hesitation. "Arwen is my daughter. If anyone who truly has the rightful right to get concerned about her, it should be me, her father. And after me, it would be her husband. Not you. You are her ex-fiancé, so you better realize your place the same as you realize your wrongs and mistakes."
