The next morning, Delyth was getting ready for the surgery. A few nurses were there to help her, but their attitude felt a little hostile. They didn’t treat her wrongly, but they kept their behavior strictly professional as if Delyth wouldn’t have been the patient in the hospital they would have even cared to look at her.
"Ms. Ember," the nurse suddenly paused to ask, "Are you feeling anywhere uncomfortable? Like dizziness or as such?"
Delyth simply shook her head. "I am fine."
The nurse nodded. "Then it’s good. We will soon wheel you to the operation theatre." Saying that, she was about to turn and leave when Delyth stopped her grabbing her hands.
"Wait," she said and when the nurse turned to look back at her, she continued, "Has Ryan yet not arrived?"
The nurse glanced up at the clock and shook her head. "He hasn’t, but Ms. Ember, there is still time. I am sure Mr. Foster will arrive soon. Please rest until then." With that, she didn’t linger there any longer and left.
Behind, Delyth wanted to stop her, but she had no chance. Before she knew she was all alone in the room. How did she end up like this? Hasn’t she always been treated with love and adoration?
Suddenly the door of her room was pushed open and when she glanced up, her eyes teared up. "Ryan!" she called.
Seeing her cry like that, Ryan couldn’t help but frown. His brows jutted as he stared at Delyth with slight annoyance. "What’s wrong?" he asked.
Delyth stared at him, her heart twisting in pain seeing his clear indifference. With every passing day, that aloofness in his attitude was only growing, greater and greater.
At first, she thought she had a chance to gain all that she had lost but now. But with every failed attempt she lost her confidence inch by inch, and now she felt reduced to nothing.
"I asked what’s wrong with you?" Ryan asked again when he didn’t see her replying. "Why are you crying?"
Tears rolled down Delyth’s eyes. "I—I am missing Zeke, Ryan. Can he not return to us? I feel so lonely suddenly." As she mentioned Zeke, tears seemed unstoppable.
Ryan stared at her for a second but soon he turned to look away as if he was bored of the act. But little did he know, this time Delyth wasn’t pretending to cry, rather she was actually crying.
Over time she has used the same tears so many times that her tears have lost their credibility. Now it no longer carried her sorrows rather it just looked like the tool that she used to her advantage —always.
"Ryan, I am actually missing Zeke a lot today. Can you please take me to him? I want to see him and —"
