Jordan’s sagging face froze.
“Mr. Aldridge, you should hire a ghost hunter. I’m terribly worried Dahlia’s father might haunt you at night,” Dominic said, feigning concern.
Jordan nearly choked at the words.
To hold back her laugh, Vespera bit her lip hard. How noble of her boss. He always took responsibility for his actions.
He truly y seemed worried for Jordan. What a kind soul he was.
Vespera wasn’t the only one. The others were also struggling to keep their composure.
Dahlia didn’t dare raise her head again.
At that moment, Jordan finally realized he was no longer in control. Dominic had been playing them all along.
It was no wonder Alex had warned him about Dominic. Alex had said Dominic’s cunning surpassed that of a fox or a venomous snake. He had also told Jordan that he’d never be able to manipulate him.
Now that it had come to this, Jordan had no choice but to find another way to reach his goal. “Mr. Reid, you’re blunt as ever,” Jordan said with a forced laugh, trying to ease the situation. “Of course I offered to help Dahlia with the money. I’ve mentioned it to her, but she has her, principles. She didn’t want to take my money for nothing. After hearing what you said, I’m deeply remorseful. I’ll have the money ready for her mother’s surgery tomorrow,” he added with false compassion.
Dominc smirked. “I guess I judged you too quickly, Mr. Aldridge. You wouldn’t trick a young girl into selling herself. I’ll drink as an apology.”
Then, he took a sip of wine.
“Your apology is only worth a sip of wine?” Jordan replied jokingly. “Come on.”
“Let’s not waste perfectly good wine,” Dominic said, turning the conversation back to the
wine.
“It’s just a bottle of wine. Or have you been trying to avoid drinking?”
Dominic’s expression turned slightly serious at Jordan’s words.
“It might just be a bottle of wine to us. But whenever I remember that half a glass would cost ten thousand dollars, and if we toast, that’s 20 thousand… well, I’m just really scared Dahlia’s
dad will be waiting by my bed at night. Aren’t you?” he asked with complete sincerity.
Jordan was left speechless. He massaged his temples, losing his will to fight back. It was a pity he didn’t have the chance to seal his mouth shut when he was young.
On the other hand, Vespera couldn’t help but think that Dominic had probably been on the debate team in university.
She started feeling sorry for Jordan. But then again, he shouldn’t have messed with Dominic in the first place.
Seeing Jordan’s fighting spirit deflate, the others in the room began to realize it wasn’t worth crossing Dominic.
He was a monster, watching them from above. It felt like he was omniscient, but he wasn’t in a hurry to expose them.

Instead, he waited for the perfect moment to strikke, like a cat playing with its prey devouring it. When they realized they were being fooled, it was already too late.
“It’s getting late. I should head back and rest.” Dominic stood up from his seat, and Jordan followed. Everyone else stood as well.
“Don’t tell me you go to bed at 9:30 pm?” Jordan asked, clearly in doubt.
