Vespera reached out to open the door. She froze as soon as the doorbell rang.
In the dining room, even Dominic's expression had darkened.
Vespera had no choice, so she reached for the handle and opened the door.
Benjamin stood outside, looking as handsome as ever. He was tall and skinny, and his glasses made him look intellectual.
"Long time no see, Vespera." Benjamin's eyes lit up at the sight of Vespera, whom he hadn't seen for years. She was far more beautiful than ever.
Vespera politely returned his smile. "Indeed. It's been a long time."
Behind her, Rebecca was thinking about how the situation had turned into a disaster.
Dominic stopped drinking his wine. He stood up leisurely and bade goodbye to Vernon. "Mr. Gildon, thanks for inviting me. Remember to let me know once the orchids have bloomed."
"I will. Definitely." Vernon also felt awkward. He never expected that Helen and Benjamin would drop by right now.
Dominic walked steadily out of the dining room. After saying goodbye to Wanda, he strode toward the door.
As Rebecca watched him heading in their direction, she felt as if her heart was about to leap out of her throat.
Meanwhile, Vespera and Benjamin were still standing by the door. After remarking how long it had been since they last saw each other, they awkwardly asked how the other had been.
Suddenly, they felt a dark cloud loom over them.
"She's been doing quite well lately. She has such a good appetite and has been sleeping well." Dominic stood behind Vespera as he answered on her behalf, and she dared not look back at him.
