Isabel suddenly noticed a commotion not far away. She glanced over and caught sight of the towering Chainsaw Man.
The moment she saw him, her heart skipped a beat.
Without thinking, Isabel started to follow.
She had always believed she’d never fall for anyone else again. Yet here she was, heart fluttering over someone new.
Besides Lyman, she was actually falling for another man—someone whose face she couldn’t even see.
As Isabel was thinking this, she suddenly spotted Effie in the crowd.
Her brow furrowed, and she let out a bitter, self-deprecating smile.
Of course.
She’d thought she was drawn to another man, but in truth, it had always been the same one all along.
Watching Effie standing right next to Lyman, Isabel’s eyes flashed with an idea.
She turned and slipped away in the opposite direction.
Moments later, a wave of tourists began surging toward Effie.
Before long, Effie was completely surrounded, a living wall of people cutting her off from Lyman.
Lyman tried to push his way toward Effie, but the crowd was packed tight, an impenetrable barrier. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t break through.
“Effie!” Lyman shouted at the top of his lungs.
But Effie couldn’t hear him; there were simply too many people around her. Hands kept reaching out, everyone wanting something from her.
It was suffocating, like being trapped in a scene out of a zombie apocalypse.
But Effie wasn’t scared by the crowd. She’d braved haunted houses before—this was nothing. What unsettled her, though, was how these people seemed to be deliberately pushing her away from Lyman.
She was almost certain it was intentional.
“Lyman! Lyman!” she called, her voice rising in panic.
But there were just too many bodies, shoving her further and further away.
Lyman realized it too. At this point, fighting the crowd was pointless.
