When Shao Yu heard her words, he was stupefied at first. He couldn't understand what was going on; he had known Shao Yuan for a long time but he had never seen her lose her temper at him like this ever. Forget about raising her hand; she had never lost her temper at him. He never thought that Shao Yuan would one day not only yell at him but also raise her hand on him.
"Sister Yuan, what happened to you? Have you lost your mind?" Shao Yu asked in a slow, deliberate voice. "Why are you hitting me when I did nothing wrong?"
"Nothing wrong?" Shao Yuan chuckled. She glanced at the mer, who was sitting on the floor with a contemptuous look in her eyes. "The fact that you are that mer's son is enough for me to kill you but I am going to be merciful and let you keep your life."
Shao Yu stared at Shao Yuan for a while. For a few seconds, he simply stared at the woman as he could not understand why the woman was suddenly acting in such a manner, but after a short resistance, his eyes widened and he realised what was going on.
He raised his head in shock.
"You— you have been pretending all along?" Shao Yu questioned. Even though she didn't say anything, Shao Yu understood everything. The doting, the care and the affection that Shao Yuan had shown to their family was all fake! She had been pretending all along. When Shao Yu thought about how Shao Yuan had been acting to be kind to him for all these years, he suddenly felt a chill in his heart. This woman —she was way too terrifying! How could she—how could she play the role of a loving sister and filial daughter for so long when she hated them so much?
Shao Yu felt chilled to the bone when he looked at the woman. He thought that Shao Yuan was an ambitious woman who chose her mother, who had the power to control countless guilds, rather than a poor mer who was nothing but a burden. But he never once thought that Shao Yuan was actually playing them all by their noses. She had been suppressing her intentions for years only to rip the mask off her face now.
He stared at the woman in front of him with sheer horror on his face. "You—you, how could you?" freewebnoveℓ.com
"How could I?" Shao Yuan chortled. With a cold glint in her eyes, she said to him, "I also asked the same question to myself when I thought about how your father harmed mine. It was really a hard choice, watching my brother and dear father leave and suffer under your father while I slowly moved the money out of the Shao family."
"I could have saved my father's life but I couldn't because even though I turned my back on them, mother never trusted me."
