Noticing Shannon's shocked reaction, Benjamin calmly added, "I previously exposed your identity to the Shaws. That was why they questioned the Jensens about you. In a way, that also led to you choosing to leave the family."
He needed to take responsibility for that.
Shannon was speechless. Just moments ago, she was wondering if he realized she had taken a bit of his golden light. Turned out, that was not it at all.
Was that all? Was Benjamin this easily tricked? It clearly sounded like a flimsy excuse. Why did he buy into it?
It went without saying that Benjamin knew Hector merely used that reasoning as an excuse for him to come over. His presence at the banquet would elevate Shannon's status, too. Nevertheless, even if it were just an excuse, it wasn't a trick as long as he was convinced.
Although Shannon hadn't clearly said she wanted Benjamin to keep her identity a secret, he had indeed exposed her identity as a Jensen without her permission. He wasn't going to avoid being held accountable for that.
His OCD nature also made him rather meticulous and exacting when it came to matters such as these.
Shannon was about to say that he didn't need to take responsibility for anything when her eyes fell on his left shoulder.
When Rachel bumped into Benjamin earlier, Shannon saw how the black fog that clung to Rachel dissipated slightly when it came into contact with Benjamin's golden light.
Like a ball of fire, the golden light could destroy all of the malevolent forces that came near him.
Shannon was tempted by it, so she didn't bother being courteous by saying he didn't need to take responsibility. Instead, she asked, "Does that mean I can come to you for help if I ever need it?"
"Nope."
Shannon was perplexed.
