Scott had been so hostile toward Shannon, even teaming up with those two dimwits, Hank and Caleb, to drive her away. Yet, she still chose to offer her assistance to him.

As Scott whimpered, the creak of a door behind him caught his attention. He hastily wiped his tears away and spun around. He was startled to see Shannon standing there.

The Jensens had blessed him with good looks, and Scott had that pretty boy look. With his red eyes and tear-streaked face, he resembled a delicate yet striking youth.

Shannon arched an eyebrow ever so slightly.

Scott's face flamed red in an instant. He felt a surge of embarrassment and shame.

"What are you doing here?" he blurted out before quickly realizing his tone might have been too harsh.

Softening his voice, he added, "I didn't mean to imply that you couldn't be here. I mean, if you want to catch some air, I'll... I'll give you the space."

Having witnessed Shannon's talents firsthand, Scott now held her in high regard. But thinking back on his previous attitude toward her, he figured she must look down on him.

"I came to find you," Shannon said, suddenly reaching out her hand. "You need to return the emerald pendant I lent you for protection."

Her tone was so icy that it was as if they hadn't just braved danger together.

Scott's eyes brimmed with tears once more, but he instinctively grasped the emerald pendant around his neck. Forgetful of his earlier woes, he looked at her with pleading eyes.

"This… This emerald pendant isn't for me?" he asked, hoping it carried the same weight as the ones she bestowed upon Hector and Adam.

Shannon glanced at him. "It was just a temporary loan. I never said it was yours."

Scott knew she was right, but he didn't want to give it up. Besides the protection it provided, he hoped it would help win her acceptance.

"Shannon, can't I keep this emerald pendant?" Scott pleaded.
