Nathan let out a cold scoff, slowly narrowing his eyes as he asked in a deep voice, “I am the one who holds the reins of Carter Group now. Tell me, whose orders will you follow?”

His tone was filled with intimidation. Upon hearing this, James‘ expression subtly shifted. He quickly lowered his head in respect and said, “I will head back right away.”

I must be losing it! How could I have forgotten that Mr. Carter is the person in charge of Carter Group?

Not daring to delay even for a moment, James hastily gathered the torn documents, tidied up his belongings, and left in a hurry.

At that moment, Olivia finally understood. Her delicate brows furrowed as she asked, “Mrs. Carter? Does he mean Emily?”

So, it was Emily who wanted to end the collaboration with Horizon Ventures?

After she had pieced together the entire situation, she let out a laugh, her face filled with mockery.

So, all of this was Emily’s doing!

And so, she shifted her gaze toward Nathan, hoping he could provide an appropriate explanation for her.

“The collaboration is still ongoing,” Nathan said directly.

Upon hearing this, Olivia didn’t feel the slightest bit of joy.

She hadn’t expected that Emily would try to interfere even for such a collaboration.

If we were to collaborate more closely in the future, who knows how many more complications there would be?

Upon reflection, she suddenly realized that she had been overly rational before, strictly adhering to professionalism, taking things for granted, completely forgetting about the existence of Emily.

Emily harbors a deep–seated resentment toward me. Today, she attempted to sabotage the collaboration between our companies behind Nathan’s back. But what about tomorrow? Nathan showed up just in time to intervene today, but could he really guarantee that he would always be there?

Olivia took a seat, falling silent for a good while before finally speaking up, “Mr. Carter, was there really a need for you to make this trip? If you truly intend to terminate our collaboration, it doesn’t really matter to me.”

At this point, she lifted her head, her gaze icy as it met his. Her words were crisp and clear as she continued, “I don’t appreciate partnerships with too many problems, and Horizon Ventures doesn’t need this contract either.”

She was implying that she couldn’t care less if Carter Group wanted to breach their contract.

Nathan thought she had misunderstood his intentions regarding the matter and quickly clarified, “That’s not what I meant—”

But before he could finish her sentence, Olivia interrupted him, “I know. I can tell that it’s your mother who’s not happy about it.”

Her tone was calm, yet Nathan could still discern the suppressed anger in her words.

A wave of guilt washed over him in an instant.

“There won’t be a next time,” he said.

With a self–deprecating laugh, Olivia asked, “Who could possibly guarantee such a thing?”

She couldn’t help but recall that rainy night five years ago, when he had simply stood by and watched as Emily drove her out of the Carter Manor.

A hint of bitterness couldn’t help but creep into her heart.

As for everything that happened today, she blamed no one but herself for being too rational.
