Her Husband's Secret Affair novel Chapter 12

Chapter 12

Sophie’s hands gripped the steering wheel tightly, her knuckles turning white as she glanced repeatedly in the rearview mirror.

Her heart raced as she spotted Adam’s car speeding after her.

“No, no, no…,” she muttered, slamming her foot on the accelerator.

The engine roared as she swerved into another lane, narrowly avoiding a truck. Her chest tightened with each glance in the mirror, Adam’s car still hot on her trail.

“Why can’t he just let me go?” she hissed, her voice cracking.

She switched lanes again, weaving through traffic like a woman possessed.

Finally, after a particularly sharp turn, his car disappeared from her view. She exhaled sharply, her body trembling.

“I need to get away from him,” Sophie whispered to herself.

But as the adrenaline faded, her thoughts returned to Brenda’s words.

“Adam told me he loved me and I love him too .”

They echoed in her head like a cruel chant.

Her vision blurred as tears spilled down her cheeks. “Was any of it real?” she choked out.

She gripped the wheel harder, her mind spiraling into chaos. Did I ever really know him?

Lost in her thoughts, Sophie didn’t see the car in front of her until it was too late.

Bang!

The impact jolted her forward, and her car screeched to a halt. Her heart pounded as she stared at the crumpled hood of her car and the scratched bumper of the one she’d hit.

“Oh my God,” she breathed, quickly wiping her face with trembling hands.

She stepped out of the car, her legs shaky as she approached the other vehicle. The driver’s window was tinted, and for a moment, the person inside didn’t move.

Sophie bit her lip, her nerves on edge.
