Chapter 23
Adam froze when Brenda stepped closer, her movements deliberate and slow. Her lips curled into a sly smile as she trailed her fingers over his chest.
“What the hell are you doing?” he growled, slapping her hand away.
Brenda tilted her head, unfazed, and crossed her arms casually. “I’m here for answers, Adam. You can’t avoid this forever.”
“Answers? What answers?” His voice rose in frustration. “What are you even doing in my apartment in the first place?”
“I came to hear your decision,” she said calmly, leaning against the arm of the couch. “What are you planning to do now that the whole world knows about us?”
Adam’s jaw tightened. “Knows about us?” He stared at her, incredulous. “What exactly do you mean, Brenda? How could you? How could you do this to me?”
Her expression darkened, but her voice remained smooth. “You made me do it, Adam. You forced my hand. If only you’d given in, if only you’d stuck to your promise—”
“What promise?” he snapped, cutting her off, his patience wearing thin.
Brenda’s smirk widened as she straightened up, locking her gaze with his. “The promise you made that night, Adam. The night we were together. Anyways I told the media the truth as same I told your wife—that we had an affair and that I’m carrying your child.”
Adam’s world spun, and he took a step back. “Brenda,” he muttered, his voice barely above a whisper. “That’s a lie. You know it’s a lie.” His voice grew stronger, tinged with desperation. “That night—it was a mistake! A stupid, regrettable mistake! And I’ve regretted it every single day since. How could you do this to me? To my family?”
She shrugged, unbothered by his outburst. “Mistake or not, Adam, actions have consequences. You should’ve thought of that before.”
He ran a hand through his hair, pacing the room like a caged animal. “You’re unbelievable. You know damn well nothing happened between us after that one night! You’re not pregnant, Brenda. You’re lying!”
Brenda let out a low laugh and stepped closer again, her eyes gleaming with a predatory glint. “Believe what you want, Adam. But the world out there believes me. And now, your reputation, your career, your precious family—it’s all hanging by a thread.”
His temper snapped. “Get out.”
