Chapter 89 Take It Or Leave
It
Darya turned around. ‘Here to seek revenge for your friend, Mr Cavanaugh?‘
Micah spoke in a low voice, ‘No.‘
‘Then we have nothing to talk about.‘
‘About that deal you proposed…‘
‘What deal?‘ Timothy pricked up his ears. ‘Darya, what’s this guy talking about?‘
‘I thought the terms were unacceptable to you,‘ Darya said.
‘I was hoping we could renegotiate.‘
Despite knowing Regina’s true colours, Micah still couldn’t bring himself to do what Darya asked.
Regina’s health had always been fragile.
Asking her to donate that much blood would probably send her back to the hospital again.
Darya kept her face blank.
She wasn’t surprised at all by the man’s answer.
When he wanted to protect someone, he’d give it his hundred and ten per cent.
He did it for his family, for Regina, for the employees of his company.
He just never did it for her.
Darya shrugged. ‘Sorry. The deal’s non–negotiable. Regina’s blood for your father’s jade ring. Take it or leave it.‘
Timothy didn’t know what was going on, but he could infer from the context.
He folded his arms and tried to look down his nose at Micah, even though the man was half a head taller than him. ‘So you’d rather make your girlfriend happy than your father, huh? You must really love her.‘
Micah ignored Timothy’s taunt. ‘There’s an auction coming up next week. Sotheby’s has a pink diamond ring in the catalogue. Forty–nine carats, pear–shaped. The estimated price is at least ten times that of the jade ring. I’ll trade you the pink diamond ring for my father’s jade ring.‘
A black limo rolled up and stopped in front of Darya.
‘Sorry, no trade, no negotiations.‘ Darya nodded at the chauffeur, who got out of the car, circled it and held open the passenger
side door for her.

Timothy climbed into the backseat
He watched Micah’s tall, lonesome figure in the rearview mirror until the car turned a corner.
‘What was that about?‘ he asked Darya. ‘What trade?
What he really wanted to ask was, since when did Darya start talking to Micah again?
He thought she was over that guy.
‘I have something he wants, but I’m not happy with the price he offered.”
‘So…it’s a business thing?”
Darya nodded.
‘Oh, okay.‘ Timothy relaxed.
It was fine as long as Darya’s interactions with Micah weren’t on a personal level.
He knitted his brows when he heard Darya giving the chauffeur his home address. ‘I thought we were going to your house. You were going to show me your pet dog‘
‘Sorry. Maybe some other time.‘
Marshmallow’s existence had to be kept confidential until the official launch.
Timothy was disappointed but didn’t push.
He knew Darya didn’t take his feelings for her seriously because she still saw him as a kid brother–carefree, spoiled, immature.
To change her impression of him, he’d have to be patient.
Within forty–eight hours of the incident at the Twilight, Sharon Hoyles and Douglas Kay were both dismissed
from Paragon.
The corporate grapevine also had it that Douglas was kicked out by his wife, who filed for divorce.
Without the two troublemakers, Darya’s job at the company became much easier.
It also helped that Avery was coming back.
On the day of his return flight, Darya dragged a reluctant Callan to the airport.
He was pouting because she forced him to leave Marshmallow at home and made him wear disguises–a black baseball cap, a black windbreaker, a black mask, dark jeans, and a pair of giant sunglasses.
‘Stay in the car,‘ Darya ordered her unruly brother. ‘I don’t want to see my name in the tabloids again.‘
Callan pointed at his all–black get–up. ‘If you wanted me to stay in the car, what’s the point of all this?‘
“To teach you a lesson.‘ Darya strolled into the arrivals hall.
Avery appeared half an hour later, with a briefcase in one hand and a magazine in the other.

Behind him, his assistant pushed a luggage cart loaded with five suitcases.
Darya went up to her big brother and gave him a bear hug. ‘Welcome home, Chief
Avery tousled her hair. ‘Hi, Dolly.‘
She took the briefcase from him.
‘How are things at home?‘
‘Fine,‘ she said. ‘Dad skipped out again. Said he needed to recharge. Right now, he’s probably sunbathing on some tropical island.”
‘And Waldo?‘
