Chapter 1535: The Grand Escape

"I figure there were others," Wang Wei said. "I’m guessing their purpose for existing is the same as mine?" freeweɓnovēl.coɱ

"I’ve always had one purpose," Hongjun said. "To protect this world. Pangu took advantage of the crack to utilize a bit of the power of Hongmeng to cast a protective barrier around the Prehistoric. The barrier has severely limited Grand Dao’s intervention into our worlds."

Hongjun sighed. "Gautama’s action showed us hope, but it also weakened the barrier. Grand Dao realized that the spread of Buddhism, or adapting ideas from the Prehistoric World, was the best way to assimilate our world and remove the barriers.

"I knew it was only a matter of time before the protection period would end, and we would be in danger. However, I also thought I had more time. I knew sending these people through the barrier would accelerate things as they share ideas from Earth. However, you were beyond my calculation."

Hongjun looked Wang Wei in the eyes. "Do you know that besides you, two other people miraculously survived after entering the void?"

Wang Wei squinted: "Other Fate Seeds?"

"That’s right. These people were ’lucky’ to swallow two pieces of World Source to sustain their soul before miraculously being sucked into the nearby worlds for reincarnation. According to Grand Dao’s script, this was supposed to be your fate. However, you diverted from your destiny when you chose to rely on yourself to survive."

Hongjun smiled gently. "When I saw you, I was shocked and awed, but also terrified. I planned for three people to reincarnate and return to the Prehistoric World to protect the world. The other three were chosen by Grand Dao to compete with other Fate Seeds for the Cardinal Position.

"I saw your potential and knew I could not allow someone like you to become Grand Dao’s lackey."

"Your first instinct was probably to eliminate me," Wang Wei said.

"It was," Hongjun admitted.

"Then, why didn’t you?"

"You’re a Diviner, so you should understand that the best and worst things for us are unknown or unpredictable variables. I figure I should observe first. The worst that could happen is you die an untimely death, and if possible, I can guide you to be a variable on our side.

"Then, as I watched your actions and knew what kind of person you were, I decided to gamble."

Wang Wei nodded. He now understood Hongjun’s mindset and why he helped him during his time as the Myriad Devourer.

"With five people from Earth spreading ideas, the destruction of the Prehistoric barrier accelerated. But it was nothing compared to you. Your existence destroyed all the calculations and predictions I made," Hongjun said.

"Regretting your gamble?" Wang Wei asked.

"It’s too early to say," Hongjun smiled. "However, my intuition tells me I have made the right choice."

"A cultivator should trust their senses," Wang Wei nodded. He thought briefly about everything Hongjun said. "To clarify, the thing you want me to protect at all costs is the Prehistoric World?"

Hongjun nodded. "I know people like you are intrinsically paranoid, so I’ll lay everything on the table. My path is similar to Supreme Unity, except more complete. I condense my Soul Quintessence by linking with Heavenly Dao, and unfortunately, my connection is even deeper than Supreme Unity. If something happens to this world, I will not survive."

"I understand," Wang Wei said. He did not completely trust or believe Hongjun’s words. There must be many things the latter is hiding, but for now, it appears his task is only to protect this world. "This place is also my home, so I have no issue fulfilling my oath. However, you should understand that I cannot do that alone."

"Don’t worry. The other three have the same oath as you. When the time comes, you can work together," Hongjun reassured.

"No problem," Wang Wei nodded. "But is that it? I have a feeling that this is not the end of this conversation."

"As astute as ever. However, the next conversation does not have anything related to me," Hongjun said.

"Don’t say that. You couldn’t have facilitated the World Collision or other plans with us," said a booming voice.

"You can’t sell us out now," said a captivating male voice.

Wang Wei saw two people appear in the room. The first one was an old man with white hair and a thick white beard, dressed in all white, with his eyes naturally glowing. He radiated holiness, divinity, and nobility, and he was the one with the booming voice.

The second one was a middle-aged black man dressed in African garments with the design of a spider. The man was slightly handsome, but the mischievous look in his eyes distracted from his handsome features. As soon as Wang Wei saw this man, he felt he was a cunning bastard that he should be careful against.
