Chapter 15 The Kennedy Family Banquet.
Layla cast a quick glance at Logan’s phone.
However, he didn’t immediately answer it; instead, he simply ended the call.
Keena’s voice cut through the silence with a chilly edge. “If you two can’t give me a grandchild soon, don’t blame me for resorting to drastic measures.”
Logan stayed silent. He knew that she had been wanting a grandson for quite some time.
Once Keena left, Layla asked. “Did you call the school office?”
“Yes.
His response was succinct.
Layla continued. “You instructed them not to show me any special favor, didn’t you?”
“What’s this? Are you trying to appeal to me now? Hoping I’ll pull some strings to get you into Athena University?
Logan sneered as he looked at her disdainfully. “Even if I did, you wouldn’t make it through.”
Layla shot back, I just hope you don’t interfere. If I do get into Athena University and you make the principal remove me from the admission list, don’t blame me for turning against you.”
Her tone matched his harshness, and Logan narrowed his eyes slightly.
This woman is getting bolder by the day
Ring
Logan’s phone rang again.
Annoyed, he answered tersely, “What now?”
“Mr. Robinson, your wife’s exam results are in”
Hearing the hesitant voice from the school office, he frowned. I see.
Across from him. Layla could discern from his expression that the school office had likely graded her exam papers ahead of
time.
“Layla, I truly didn’t anticipate you resorting to cheating on the Athena University entrance exam
“I passed, didn’t I?”
She dismissed his accusation. From his demeanor, she could infer that she had met the passing threshold. “Logan, since I’ve passed, let’s not dwell on how it happened. Publicly, I’ll uphold the facade of the perfect wife. But privately, don’t assume you can dictate my actions.
Layla’s attitude was firm.
Logan said, “I don’t mind you doing your own thing, but you’d better be ready to handle Grandma. If she finds out you’re going to Athena University, I won’t be able to protect you.”
“No problem. We can just get a divorce, Layla remarked casually, eliciting a deeper frown from Logan.
Lately, she had been casually mentioning divorce at every opportunity.
However, with the ongoing collaboration between the Kennedys and Robinsons, divorce was simply not an option.
Logan said coldly, “Stop using divorce as a threat.”

At this crucial juncture, divorce was out of the question for him. Even the Kennedy elders wouldn’t entertain the idea
Though Layla’s family still held some sway and prestige, their influence was waning. Without the Robinsons‘ support, their decline would hasten.
Conversely, the Robinson family needed her family’s connections and projects.
The two families couldn’t afford to have a fallout right now.
Hence, Logan felt genuinely threatened by her words.
“So, for the sake of our cooperation, please make sure to keep this from Grandma. If she gets wind of it, divorce will be our only option.” Layla stated with a smile.
He could hear a hint of serioustiess in her tome.
Outside, night had descended completely. Zane sat at his desk, ending the call with the school office.
“What’s the word queried Fedrick from the sidelines.
“She passed.”
Fedrick paused. “She passed? Really?
Fedrick’s disbelief mirrored in his expression. “You didn’t pull any strings with the school?”
“She made it through on her own. I had no hand in it.”
“My goodness…
Fedrick was visibly shocked, his jaw nearly dropping. “Layla really has some skills. I recall her records mentioning a previous major in foreign languages, completely unrelated to this.”
“She’s a language genius. She earned her master’s degree at seventeen. She’s anything but unintelligent.”
From the moment Zane witnessed Layla acquire that piece of land, he recognized the determination in her eyes.
Things are becoming more and more interesting.
The following day at noon, Layla stood by the window engrossed in a finance book when Maria knocked. “Mrs. Robinson, the stylist and makeup artist are here. Are you ready to proceed?”
“Why?” Layla inquired
“Isn’t tonight your family banquet?” Maria reminded her.
Layla frowned, realizing she had nearly forgotten about the event amidst the recent whirlwind of activities.
She rubbed her temples. If it hadn’t been for this mouthly family banquet, I wouldn’t be caught dead going
“Alright, let them in,” she said and set aside her book.
The Kennedy family, renowned for its age and prestige, maintained the tradition of a monthly family banquet, mandatory for all listed members sharing the surname.
Concerned about Logan’s attendance, Layla queried. “What about Logan?”
“Mr. Robinson lef early this morning, presumably for work” Maria replied.
Layla dialed his number.

This time, he picked up promptly.
“Tonight is my family banquet, Are you=”
Before she could finish. Logan interjected, “I have plans tonight.
“Understood.” Layla replied shortly before ending the call.

Standing nearby, Maria suggested, “Mrs. Robinson, perhaps you should try speaking to him again. It’s your first time returning to your family since the wedding. If he doesn’t accompany you, you might face criticism.”
Despite Maria’s earnest advice, Layla understood the potential scrutiny she might encounter if Logan chose not to accompany her.
“It’s fine. I’m accustomed to it.
She was ready to face any gossiping relatives even if Logan didn’t join her.
As evening descended, Layla’s car arrived outside the Kennedy Residence, where most family members had already gathered.
As the main door opened, all eyes turned to Layla. She was wearing an elegant, royal blue long dress, exuding grace and nobility.
Well look who decided to grace us with her presence. Our eldest miss returns.” Rachel Rowland’s tone dripped with sarcasm. “Why didn’t you come back with Logan? Did you two have a spat? I always said you’d be better off marrying into our Rowland family. The Robinsons clearly don’t value you at all.”
“Aunt Rachel, isn’t your youngest pushing forty? Seems like your family prefers second marriages, but that’s not my style.”
Layla didn’t hold back at all.
Rachel shot Layla a glare
Peter Kennedy nudged Rachel to silence.
“Layla, disregard your aunt’s words. She’s just worried you’ll be mistreated by the Robinsons”
Acknowledging her second uncle’s intervention, Layla responded with more restraint,
Rachel, not much older than Layla, exuded a seductive and ostentatious aura. After Peter’s divorce from his first wife, he wed Kachel, his former mistress, a move that earned her disdain as a homewrecker within the Kennedy family.
Despite this, Peter’s fondness for her garnered some begrudging respect from the family.
Nevertheless, Rachel often sought confrontation with Layla,
In her previous life, Layla had tolerated Rachel out of respect for her uncle. However, when the Kennedy family faced financial ruin, Rachel callously discarded Peter and absconded with his assets.
This time around, Layla harbored no intentions of showing her any mercy.
“Miss Kennedy, while Mrs. Kennedy’s remarks were uncalled for, this is a family gathering. You’ve only been married for a month. He should be here,” a member from a peripheral branch of the Kennedys interjected.
“Yeah, shall we give him a call? We can wait a bit longer.”
People around them started agreeing.
Layla understood their underlying motives.
With the Kennedy family’s numerous business interests, many attendees saw this banquet as an opportune moment to discuss potential collaborations with Logan.
“If it’s causing you such distress, Miss Kennedy, I can reach out to him on your behalf. After all, we’re family. We’ll cross P
