Outside the door, Father Su and Mother Su looked at each other distressingly. Their daughter has a high fever and has not woken up for two days. But their son-in-law still does this kind of thing. Wouldn’t this be equivalent to killing their daughter?
Although both of them were worried about their daughter, there was nothing they could do at the moment. Because they still needed Da Gao’s support, they could only close their eyes and return to their rooms as if they knew nothing.
As the sky gradually darkened, Da Gao finally walked out of the room and went to the kitchen to get a basin of hot water to clean his wife’s body.
When he returned from the kitchen and walked past Grandma’s room, he smelled the stench in the air and frowned. He put the basin on the table and opened the door. The moment the door was opened, a very bad smell assaulted his nose, making him almost vomit on the spot.
He covered his nose with his sleeves and walked closer to the Kang bed. When he saw his grandma’s face, he was shocked and shouted, "Ah, ghost!"
Looking at the skeleton-like body on the bed, he stretched out his trembling hands to check his grandma’s breathing. When he put his fingers under Grandma Gao’s nose, he couldn’t feel any breath at all. He was shocked, took back his hand and looked at his grandma’s condition.
In addition to her lower body being covered in dried yellow stains, her collar and chest were also stained with water marks, possibly her saliva. Her dried, yellow hair was messy and her hands were clenched tightly on her side. Looking at his grandma’s wide open eyes, Da Gao could feel the resentment hidden in those dull eyes.
As he stood motionless beside the Kang bed, a cold wind blew past his neck. Da Gao felt a chill running down his spine instantly. He turned around and ran outside the house, shouting, "Help! Someone please save my grandma!"
Because of his shouting, Father Su and Mother Su were alarmed and they walked out of the room in shock. They quickly went to Grandma Gao’s room to check the situation. Seeing her look, both of them almost vomited on the spot.
Thinking that if others saw it, their daughter’s reputation as a vicious daughter-in-law would spread, the two looked at each other with tacit understanding. The next moment, Father Su went to get a basin of water that Da Gao left on the table, while Mother Su quickly opened the window to ventilate the room. Then, she opened the cabinet and took out a set of clean clothes, bedding, and two towels.
Due to limited time, Father Su ignored etiquette and helped his wife undress Grandma Gao. After changing the bedding, they helped Grandma Gao clean up and change her clothes.
Not long after they finished putting clothes on Grandma Gao, they heard a voice coming from outside. Since there was no time, Father Su and Mother Su quickly took the basin of water, dirty clothes, and bedding and went to the backyard to take care of it.
After they threw away the water, they placed the clothes and bedding near the chicken coop and spread hay over them. In this way, no one will know Grandma Gao’s living condition before she dies.
