Camila gave Maisie an address, and Maisie followed her directions to a storefront on a street. Camila's car was parked on the side of the road, and she waved at Maisie with a smile.
"This car looks pretty average, but its performance is excellent!" Camila grinned sheepishly. "Um... this was the first car I bought with my own savings. I've had it for a long time and I'm quite attached to it."
Maisie was surprised. She hadn't expected Camila, given her background, to save money on her own.
"You'll understand later. I'm not well-regarded in the Quimby family..." Camila's expression turned somber, but she still made an effort to smile at Maisie. "I'm really happy to be friends with you and work with you. Maisie, you don't look down on me because I'm not valued in the Quimby family, right?"
Maisie's heart clenched. She vaguely remembered Daniel mentioning once that Camila wasn't his fourth uncle's biological daughter. She had been adopted to serve as a placeholder, but after Daniel's fourth uncle and aunt had had biological children, they’d no longer paid attention to Camila.
"No, of course not." Maisie smiled and shook her head. "You're a good person with strong work abilities. Why would I look down on you? Besides, people don't need to live for others. Just be true to yourself."
"You're really kind." Camila smiled. "Having a friend like you is enough! By the way, I apologize for making you revise the manuscript over and over..."
"Don't say that. You were doing it for my own good."
Camila glanced at her with a smile. Although Maisie had sharp claws and fangs, most of the time, this cat kept its claws sheathed.
"Camila." Maisie looked at the scenery outside and the gradually thinning crowd. "Where are you taking me?"
"We've been wandering around the city center for a while, so I'll take you to the outskirts!" Camila reassured her. "Don't worry, we won't go far. Just to a place near the outskirts. The scenery is great, and there aren't many people around!"
Maisie nodded, and Camila soon led her to a picturesque area near the outskirts. There were villas built along the mountainside, all in a quaint Eropah style. The blue skies, the white clouds, the scent of flowers, and the song of the birds gave the place an idyllic charm.
Maisie instantly fell in love with it.
