Mr. Jimenez smiled and said, “I’m trying my best. I want to live long enough to see Serenity’s baby born and Elisa get married and have a child. Before, I had only one wish, but now I’m getting a little greedy.”
Mr. Jimenez returned to Audrey’s side. Audrey, who used to need his support, was now entering old age and about to become a grandmother. With so many younger relatives, all of whom treated him with respect, he felt content as an elder.
Mr. Jimenez thought, if he could live a few more years, he would love to see the happiness of the descendants of the former matriarch. When he eventually passed away and met her again, he would have wonderful stories to share about the younger generations.
Audrey and Darrell stepped forward, replacing Zachary and Clive, supporting Mr. Jimenez on either side. Ezequiel and Dakota followed, with the younger generation walking behind them.
“Cousin, you’re here,” Kathryn said as she approached with Pedro and the butler, smiling as she greeted Audrey.
Audrey and her group paused.
Mr. Jimenez looked at Kathryn, and she looked back at him.
Kathryn quickly smiled and said, “Cousin, this must be Mr. Jimenez, my aunt’s assistant. I just heard my mother mention him recently.”
Though Mr. Jimenez appeared a bit frail, his spirit seemed strong. Despite his fragile appearance, it was remarkable that he had lived nearly a century. His health was better than they had expected.
Audrey first glanced at Pedro, then at Kathryn, and coldly asked, “Are you real or fake?
Mr. Fraser is real.”
Kathryn smiled and replied, “Mr. Fraser is loyal only to me, just like Mr. Jimenez was always loyal to my aunt.” This was her way of saying she was genuine. However, inside, she felt uneasy. Her cousin, Audrey, and the others were impressive. When she was sent away by her mother, a substitute had been arranged, and Audrey and the group were aware of it.
Mr. Jimenez squinted at Kathryn and asked Audrey, “Is this Clarissa’s daughter?”
Audrey had told him that Clarissa had three sons and one daughter, but the daughter was swapped at birth by the butler. The butler’s daughter grew up in the Farrell family and was deeply loved by Clarissa’s family. The truth was only discovered a few years ago.
The real daughter returned to the Farrell family, but struggled to fit in. Kathryn, pretending to be meek and harmless, fooled many into thinking she was weak. In reality, she was sharp and shrewd, more than people realized.
Audrey had mentioned that if Clarissa hadn’t killed her own sister, she and Kathryn
might have gotten along well, despite the large age difference.
Audrey admired Kathryn to some extent, and Kathryn, in turn, appreciated her. Audrey, though retired, still had strong connections and could help the Stone Group if needed.
When Clive took over, many senior figures in business respected him because of
Audrey. The Stone Group grew stronger, though it couldn’t surpass the York
Corporation. It was still one of the most powerful in Wiltspoon.
In the past, the two groups were bitter rivals. But after Serenity married into the York family, the tension between the families lessened. They still competed in business, but the life-and-death rivalry had eased.
“Hello, Mr. Jimenez. I’m Kathryn,” she said, extending her right hand respectfully.
