Katie froze, an overwhelming sense of dread creeping up her spine.
Wait... Logan was standing at the door?
Then who was in that room?
Her mind went blank. "M-Mr. Reid, why are you here...?"
Logan raised his eyes lazily, his tone carrying a deeper meaning. "If I wasn’t here, would I be lying in bed with your daughter instead?"
"That’s not what I meant!" Katie’s throat tightened, unable to figure out where things had gone wrong.
Logan hadn’t been in the room last night? Impossible! She had personally watched him lie down!
Could it be that Mr. Reid was trying to back out? Yes, that must be it! He didn’t want to take responsibility. But how could she allow that?! She and Natalia had schemed so hard to get to this point—they couldn’t let it all go to waste!
Suddenly, Katie covered her mouth and burst into tears. "Mr. Reid, are you really going to deny it? People heard you and Natalia in that room last night..."
"I’m just trying to seek justice for my daughter! She was kind enough to help you back to your room, and yet you... wuuu... Our Clark Family is not the kind of household that lets things slide. Mr. Reid, tell me, what is Natalia supposed to do now?"
Logan narrowed his eyes. "And what do you think should be done, Mrs. Bryant?"
Katie instantly felt hope. "I know Natalia well—she’s a very traditional girl. She would never give herself to a man before marriage. Mr. Reid, if you don’t marry her, she won’t be able to handle the shame... wuuu..."
Selina couldn’t hold back a laugh.
Traditional? Natalia?
Katie sure had the guts to say that with a straight face.
Selina raised an eyebrow casually. "Marry her? But stepmother, Logan and I are already married. How exactly is he supposed to marry Natalia? Are you planning to force me to divorce him?"
"How ironic. You stole my mother’s husband, and now Natalia wants to steal mine. Guess being a homewrecker runs in the family."
The second floor of the villa fell into dead silence. The guests exchanged looks, unsure of how to respond.
She wasn’t wrong...
Katie had stolen Victoria’s husband, climbed her way up as a mistress, and now she was encouraging her daughter to snatch Selina’s man.
A mother-daughter duo of mistresses. That was a new level of audacity.
Katie suddenly put on a heartbroken expression and sobbed even louder. "Selina, how could you think of me this way?! I’m doing this for your own good!"
"Natalia is well-educated and refined. She and Mr. Reid share common ground. And you? I’m not trying to put you down, but you grew up in the countryside. You’re completely disconnected from high society. You and Mr. Reid are simply not a good match, and you won’t be happy together!"
Logan’s gaze grew colder.
Katie glanced at him carefully. Seeing that Mr. Reid remained silent, she grew bolder.
"Besides, I never said you had to divorce! I just think you and Natalia should take care of Mr. Reid together. You’re sisters at home, so why not be sisters in the Reid Family as well? Wouldn’t that be wonderful?"
Selina let out a low chuckle. "Oh, so what you mean is that Natalia should be Logan’s concubine? What era do you think this is? Are you seriously suggesting a ’buy one, get one free’ deal—complete with a complimentary maid?"
Logan’s lips curled slightly. Mrs. Reid was truly something else.
Katie’s face turned red with rage. "What do you mean, a maid? Natalia is—"
"I am the rightful eldest daughter of the Clark Family and legally married to Logan. And Natalia? A mistress’s daughter, shamelessly trying to force her way into my marital home. If that’s not a maid, then what is?"
Selina sneered. "Stepmother, stop dumping your trash on the Reid Family."
"You—you!" Katie shrieked in fury.
Evelyn quickly chimed in, "You don’t have to be so harsh! If you can’t keep such an outstanding man like Mr. Reid, what’s wrong with letting Natalia have him?"
"Didn’t Mr. Perez propose a business marriage with the Clark Family multiple times? I think you should just marry him instead!"
Selina raised an eyebrow.
Oh?
So last night’s Mr. Perez was someone they had arranged for her?
No wonder this mother-daughter pair was so insistent on dragging her back for this banquet.
