Selina narrowed her eyes. "Mr. Carter, Logan and I are doing just fine. Save your attempts to sow discord."
Jacob sighed helplessly. "I’m not trying to create discord. But from the very beginning, wasn’t it Ryan’s uncle you wanted to marry?"
Selina nodded. "That’s right. And that’s why I married Logan."
Jacob’s voice turned slightly hoarse. "Miss Clark, even now, do you still think you married the right man?"
Selina knew she had made a mistake, but she had never admitted it to herself. Now that Jacob had bluntly pointed it out, she suddenly looked up.
"Mr. Carter, the husband I needed was someone from the Carter Family—someone who could help me reclaim my mother’s inheritance. Whether Logan is related to the Carters by blood or not, he fit that requirement."
Through what she had gathered from Butler Miller, Jack, Amelia, and Owen, she had more or less pieced together the truth.
"Logan was deliberately switched with Owen as a child by someone with ulterior motives. He was taken in by the Carter Family, and even now, Old Mr. Carter still calls himself his ’father.’ So, Mr. Carter, what exactly are you trying to say?"
Selina felt she had made herself clear.
She had never regretted marrying Logan. Even if it was a mistake... it was a mistake she was happy to live with.
She and Jacob were complete strangers. Why was he so insistent that she get a divorce just because of a so-called "mix-up"?
Unexpectedly, Jacob let out a cold laugh. "Taken in? Miss Clark, do you really think it’s that simple?"
Selina frowned slightly.
Jacob seemed to realize that saying any more would be pointless. "Let me give you a piece of advice, Miss Clark—Logan has no heart. Loving him will never end well."
With that, he shot her one last glance and turned to leave.
Luke had been listening in on most of the conversation, and he was instantly outraged.
"Selina, that guy is clearly up to no good! Don’t let him fool you! You and Logan are practically made for each other. He’s just jealous!"
The Carter Family—every single one of them—just couldn’t stand to see others happy!
Selina looked at him, startled. "You think Logan and I are a perfect match?"
Luke felt a pang in his heart. Oh no! Was Selina starting to doubt herself? Did she think she wasn’t good enough for Logan? Was she feeling insecure?
Luke raised his voice. "Of course! You’re the best woman in the world—only you deserve Logan! You and Logan are locked together forever, and I swallowed the key! No one is breaking you two apart!"
Selina paused, deep in thought. "But an hour ago, didn’t you try to give me five million to leave your brother?"
Luke: "..."
This... this was what it meant to dig your own grave.
Selina bid farewell to Old Mr. Carter and left.
As she walked down the street, a massive billboard caught her eye.
Luke let out a surprised gasp. "Hey, that’s the Clark actress I was talking about! Carter Family invited her today, but she bailed on them... Angelica. That name sounds so familiar."
Selina’s expression darkened, and a cold glint flashed through her eyes.
Angelica Clark!
She was back?!
The next morning, Selina got up and went downstairs, only to find Logan still in the living room.
She glanced at the time in shock—it was already 10:30. Why was Logan still home?!
The man set down the contract he had been reading. "You’re awake? Eat breakfast, then we’ll head out."
Still groggy from sleep, Selina blinked in confusion. "Head out where?"
Logan’s pale gray eyes held a hint of indulgence. "Didn’t Mrs. Reid say yesterday that she wanted to visit Reid Group?"
Selina instantly snapped awake.
She had casually mentioned wanting to go, and now Logan was actually waiting to take her?
"Besides, this doesn’t count as being late. I have official business to handle." freēwēbηovel.c૦m
