"You probably don’t know, but I was brought here by Miss Hayes," Butler White explained casually. Then, as if recalling something, she smiled smugly.
"I suggest you restore this area to its original state and replant the orchids. That way, when Miss Hayes returns, she won’t hold you accountable. Otherwise, even if I stay silent, Mr. Reid will make sure you’re thrown out."
Selina’s eyes flickered. Suddenly, she asked, "Who am I?"
Butler White was caught off guard. "You..."
"I am Logan’s lawful wife, the mistress of Sapphire Valley Villa," Selina said slowly and deliberately.
"In my own home, I can plant a few flowers without being held accountable by an outsider, don’t you think?"
This mother and daughter had been passive-aggressively insinuating that she wasn’t worthy of Logan. But so what? At least she had a marriage certificate with Logan. What did Miss Hayes have? The right to dictate her life?
Butler White’s expression faltered, and she raised her voice. "That’s not how it works. If you want to be Mrs. Reid, you’ll need to hold onto the position. Miss Hayes treats me with respect every time she sees me, unlike you, who have no regard for your elders. You’re unworthy of Mr. Reid!"
With that, Butler White lifted her foot, intending to kick Selina in the waist.
But Selina turned swiftly, catching her off guard and slamming her to the ground with ease.
Selina looked at the defeated Butler White and feigned surprise.
"An elder, you say? You’re practically one foot in the grave, and yet you still can’t figure out your place?"
"You, you—"
Butler White was so enraged she was about to start shouting, but suddenly, her eyes widened, and she began to cry loudly.
"Madam, have mercy! It’s all my fault!"
Selina was baffled by her sudden outburst when a cold male voice sounded behind her.
"What’s going on here?"
Selina froze, instinctively turning around.
Logan stood there, wearing his gold-rimmed glasses. His sharp gaze swept over the scene before landing on the kneeling Butler White.
Butler White immediately lowered her head, feigning submission. "Nothing, sir. I accidentally offended Miss Clark. It’s all my fault."
Emily, on the other hand, rushed to Logan, crying loudly as she complained.
"Sir, please save us! My mom saw Miss Clark uprooting the flowers Miss Hayes planted and gently advised her, but Miss Clark went crazy and started punishing us! Look at the injury on my hand—it’s all her doing!"
"And my poor mom—she’s old and still had to kneel in front of Miss Clark. My mom has worked here at Sapphire Valley Villa for so many years. She may not have achieved much, but she’s endured so much. How can she be treated like this...?"
Selina glanced at the injury Emily had sustained when she fell earlier and then at Butler White’s kneeling posture. She clicked her tongue.
The way things looked now, it really didn’t seem easy to explain...
Butler White interrupted Emily, bowing her head as she spoke humbly.
"Emily, Miss Clark is the mistress. She has every right to treat us however she wishes. But my health isn’t good, and being punished to kneel all the time is too much for me to bear. If Miss Clark can’t tolerate us, I’ll just return to the old estate."
Selina hadn’t expected someone of Butler White’s age to be such a master of manipulation. She regretted not recording the interaction.
Just as she was about to speak, Logan raised his eyes suddenly, his voice raspy.
"Butler White wants to leave?"
Butler White immediately sensed something was wrong and felt a chill run down her spine. She opened her mouth to speak, but Logan cut her off.
"In that case, I’ll grant your wish. At your age, it’s time to enjoy your retirement."
Selina blinked and stole a glance at Logan.
He wasn’t blaming her? In the past, whenever someone cried, the Clark Family would pin the blame on her. But Logan didn’t even ask questions before dismissing Butler White.
A wave of warmth suddenly rose in her chest.
Logan leaned closer, his voice even raspier. "This is the first time I’ve learned that the servants of Sapphire Valley Villa have the authority to accuse the mistress of being arrogant." frёewebηovel.cѳm
