“You must be very stupid to think you can walk out on me, you disgusting whore!
Crack!
Her palm collided with my cheek in a stinging slap. My head jerked deways, white–hot pain burning the spot like fire.
Stars danced behind my eyes. My skin stung. My balance staggered.
My hand instinctively flew to the side of my face where it hurt.
“I did everything possible to be with the man I’ve always loved. And you think you can just… Take him away from me without a fight?” She scoffed, “You have something else coming, honey.”
I straightened up, my palms twitching by my side.
“You will reject him and be on your way out of his life and this city. Otherwise, I’ll make your life a living hell, I promise…”
I didn’t let her finish.
With every single strength in me, I lifted my hand and struck her with my palm as hard as I could across her flawless face.
I didn’t wait for her to regain her stance when my other hand descended on her other cheek in another perfect slap, rocking her off
balance.
Her perfectly stretched hair flew across her face, turning into a mess.
“Listen to me, June. I have always taken you as an older sister. But don’t mistake my meekness for weakness because the next time you hit me like that again, I’ll do more than return the favor. I’ll return it in tenfold.” I said through gritted teeth.
June’s hand hovered near her cheek like she couldn’t believe I’d actually hit her twice. And I wasn’t sorry. Not even a little.
She blinked slowly, then scoffed, turning her face as if to recover her dignity. She took a step back toward the bed, grabbed her handbag, and then paused.
Her eyes met mine, and I saw venom swirling in them, but her lips curled into something like satisfaction. The kind of grin that says, ‘You’ve only just begun to burn, sweetheart.‘
“I was going to leave,” she muttered, digging through her bag, “but I think you should see this before you go thinking you’ve won some fucking battle.”
She pulled out her phone, and, for a second, I thought she was bluffing. I thought maybe she was just trying to rattle me to keep some power in a game she was quickly losing.
But then she turned the screen toward me.
