Manfred gently hummed in response. The emotions in his eyes betrayed his inner turmoil. Without hesitation, he pulled Vivian into his arms. "I was afraid I'd never see you again."
…
Inside the carriage on their way back to Everholm, Vivian recounted everything—how Sterling had taken her, how she had handled him, and how she had ultimately escaped Bowman Residence.
After finishing her story, she took a deep breath, still visibly shaken.
"He's a cunning and ruthless man. You'll have to be careful dealing with him," she warned.
Manfred chuckled. "The Bowmans are in chaos now. He won't have time to come after me. By the time he comes looking for trouble, he probably won't even be able to leave Bowman Residence."
Vivian blinked at his words. "So that's where you disappeared for two days? You went after him, didn't you?"
She knew Manfred well enough—he was never one to sit idly by when there was a target in sight.
Before, the original Manfred in this world had been oblivious to the schemes around him, drifting further down the wrong path. But since Manfred took over, he had seen through everyone's plans and started making calculated moves to fight back.
"Yes, I went to assassinate the head of the Bowman family." Manfred didn't bother hiding the truth from Vivian.
Vivian laughed. "I'm glad you came for me. Otherwise, I wouldn't even know where to hide next."
Upon hearing this, a murderous intent flashed in Manfred's eyes. If he had been any later, Vivian might have been left to wander the streets. Sterling deserved to die!
"Don't worry. I won't let you fall into danger again," he promised.
Vivian felt warmth bloom in her heart. She hummed in response.
Suddenly, something important came to mind. "By the way, how did you come to this world? After I left, what happened to you?" she asked.
She had no idea how much time had passed since she had disappeared. For her, it felt like an instant, but for Manfred, it could have been years.

More chapters please...
Is the author going to finally portray Skylark as a brave woman who can argue and communicate like a normal person in this real world? Hoping so.......
I don't like this story portraying Skylark's personality as too weak, too naive, Can't even defend herself Like accepting every humiliation from Vera's schemes and injustice without saying anything or doing anything. I wonder who is the protagonist in this novel, Vera or Skylark....
