Just a quick peek—and then she averted her eyes away from him. Looking at handsome men too much could lead one’s heart astray, and result in all manner of foolish behaviors.
Willow used to think that she wouldn’t be so shallow a person… now she saw how wrong she was. Everybody liked pretty things, didn’t they? It was perfectly natural!
However, she understood that she’d need to get these desires under control. She was only too well aware that she and Jasper were simply not meant to be. Some grudges could never be overlooked.
Yelena Anderson had remained at that restaurant for well on two hours, now. Most of that time had been spent calling up her closest friends to lament her misfortunes, and sigh over her unrequited feelings for Jasper Hughes.
Why couldn’t she get him to take an interest in her, in return…?
Maybe the problem, she dared to speculate, was because her grandfather hadn’t informed her right away about her promised engagement to Jasper. Had she known all along, why… she’d never have gotten involved with any other men at all! But Jasper had found out about it, and he hadn’t been pleased with her.
Right now, the only man she had any interest in was Jasper; but he just wouldn’t allow her a fair chance! It was infuriating!
At last, she’d had her fill of belly-aching—and she’d filled up her belly as well. As she walked out from her corner of the restaurant, she immediately caught sight of those two, by the window.
The man was dressed smartly in formal businesswear, but his was such a striking image that he occupied a league all his own. It was Jasper Hughes—the love of her life, the man of her dreams!
The sight of him instantly filled her heart with glee, and brought a smile to her face. As she was about to run up to him though, she became aware that there was a woman seated at the table with him.
Yelena took a closer look at that woman. At first, she hadn’t had any particular opinion on the matter—but when she realized who it was, her joy was instantly replaced with indignation!
It was none other than that Willow Nason!
Her long, black hair was presently concealing her face from view—but Yelena could tell with one look that it was her, with no room for doubt. She was wearing that same dress she’d worn for her date with Xavier. Her hair appeared a little less damp now, but her make-up and mannerisms remained totally unchanged.
