Chapter 260: Long Yu And Yao Ran’s Speculations

Huang Zhihui glanced at her elder brother and replied, "It's actually Elder Sister Yao Ran who was throwing the grenades."

Huang Qian was speechless when he heard this.

"..." I should have known. Captain isn't rich enough to waste grenades like this.

After mentally sighing at Long Yu's poverty for a while, Huang Qian suddenly realized something and asked, "Wait a minute. I thought we didn't have any grenades. Didn't Jia Xiang only make a few small explosives? Where did Yao Ran get these grenades?"

Huang Zhihui rolled her eyes at her elder brother and said, "Well, since we don't have any, they must belong to Elder Sister Yao Ran."

Huang Qian was speechless once more.

"..." Who exactly is Yao Ran? How on earth does she have grenades?

Unaware of her brother's thoughts, Huang Zhihui used the binoculars to keep watching the scene behind them.

After throwing two grenades, Yao Ran finally killed all the mutant dogs. Looking at the blood and flesh scattered along the road, she sighed in relief and sat back down.

After closing the roof window, Yao Ran returned her sniper rifle and remaining grenades to her space, then crawled back to the passenger seat.

She pulled out a solar-powered fan and a bowl of ice from her space and turned the fan on to cool the temperature inside the car. As the cool air blew onto her face, the prickling heat on her flushed cheeks began to fade.

Letting out a comfortable sigh, Yao Ran asked, "Do you think the nuclear reactors have exploded?"

Long Yu pondered on her question for a moment and replied, "It's unlikely. Nuclear reactors don't explode easily. It takes major earthquakes or tsunamis to trigger a meltdown and explosion."

"What about extreme heat?" Yao Ran asked again.

Long Yu shook his head and explained, "Nuclear reactors have a negative temperature coefficient, meaning they are designed to shut down when temperatures increase." "Power plants use control rods to absorb some of the neutrons released during a chain reaction. They also have structural materials and water to slow down neutrons before they reach other fissile atoms. So, it's very unlikely for them to explode due to extreme heat."

Yao Ran listened to his explanation and fell into deep thought. After a long silence, she said, "Since the mutation isn't caused by nuclear radiation, then what could have caused the animals to mutate early?"

Hearing this question, Long Yu's eyes flickered for a moment as he said, "In my previous life, I spent years investigating The Ark."

"From the documents and scientific reports I found in their laboratories, I found out that a professor working there claimed that the first wave of mutation was not caused by nuclear radiation but rather by changes in the atmosphere and pollution."

Long Yu thought for a second and added, "To put it simply, those mutated rats and dogs with larger bodies most likely mutated due to air pollution or increased levels of oxygen in the atmosphere, and not because of the nuclear radiations."

After he said that, Yao Ran nodded in understanding, "No wonder those mutated dogs' bodies only grew larger without deforming."

"That's right."

While the two of them were discussing the early mutation, Sima Hao saw a fork in the road ahead and picked up the walkie-talkie in the dashboard.
