Survivors focused on securing light and food, but they had forgotten that the absence of the sun meant freezing temperatures.
After staring outside for a while, Yao Ran said, "A Yu, I think something is going to happen today."
Yao Ran's intuition was rarely wrong. Long Yu thought for a moment and asked, "Do you think the gang will attack today?"
Yao Ran shook her head and replied, "I'm not sure, but the sudden drop in temperature has left everyone unprepared. Soldiers will need time to organize supplies and control the situation. If the gang wants to attack, today is their best chance."
After hearing her explanation, Long Yu said, "It won't be easy for the gang to enter the villa area, but we can't be too careful. I will find Shi Xuan, and we will set up some traps just in case."
Yao Ran nodded, "Alright."
Just as Long Yu turned to leave, the satellite phone on the bedside table rang. The two exchanged glances before Long Yu picked it up.
Connecting the call, he calmly said, "This is Long Yu."
Li Tianyu's voice came through a second later. "Captain Long, are you all okay over there?"
"Yes," Long Yu replied, but hearing smashing sounds and shouting over the phone, he asked, "What is happening on your end?"
Li Tianyu cursed, followed by a gunshot, before replying, "Don't leave your home unless necessary. Things are chaotic out here. Survivors are looting, burning, and robbing everywhere."
It had been less than an hour since the temperature dropped, yet chaos had already erupted. Long Yu's eyes darkened, and he asked, "Captain Li, could the gangs be behind this?"
"I think so too. Unfortunately, we don't have enough soldiers, and it's impossible to identify gang members among the survivors," Li Tianyu said as he kicked away another survivor from robbing a woman.
Hearing another gunshot, Long Yu said, "We will be careful. If you need anything, let us know."
"Alright."
After the call ended, Long Yu turned to Yao Ran and said, "It seems your intuition was right again. The survivors are rioting, robbing, looting, and burning everything."
Yao Ran's eyes darkened at his words. Before she could speak, screams and gunshots echoed from outside.
"Ah! It's robbers!"
"Get inside! Hurry up!"
Bang! Bang! Bang!
"Lock the door, and don't come out!" A soldier's anxious shout followed moments later. After looking at each other for a second, Yao Ran and Long Yu rushed to the windows. Thanks to the street lamps installed in the villa area, they could see what was happening below.
A group of armed, masked men was engaged in a fierce fight with a few soldiers. Yao Ran and Long Yu exchanged a glance before grabbing their weapons.
Before leaving, Yao Ran handed Long Yu a bulletproof vest. Once they had both put on the vests, they hurriedly left the bedroom.
Downstairs, they encountered Shi Xuan.
Shi Xuan looked at them and asked, "Captain, Yao Ran, are you guys also going out?"
Yao Ran nodded. "Yes."
Noticing that Shi Xuan was only wearing a winter jacket, she took out another bulletproof vest, handed it to him, and said, "You should put this on before going out."
"Thanks."
