Colonel Tang’s entourage ultimately met with Wang Chul.
At the sight of the pursuing wolves, Colonel Tang ordered the soldiers he brought to assist Wang Chul.
The pack of wolves sensed that the balance of power was tipping on the other side.
They quickly withdrew but not before dragging the other deceased wolves’ corpses away, disappearing into the rows of ruined buildings and houses.
Wang Chul and the others managed to catch their breath.
Uncle Zhang and Uncle Cang also caressed their wives’ backs, murmuring that everything will be alright.
Remembering Lin Weihao and the other who had remained in the Plant Conservatory, Wang Chul told Colonel Tang about them.
Lin Weihao’s grandfather and Colonel Tang had a close-knit relationship when they were both still serving in the army.
He was Colonel Tang’s direct superior.
Colonel Tang would often see the kid Lin Weihao when he tagged along with his grandfather to see the planes and aircraft.
As Lin Weihao grew older, he stopped visiting the military base and only resumed his visits three months ago.
Regarding Lin Weihao’s whereabouts, he knew he had left days ago to check a village located to the left of the military base.
The Plant Conservatory is in a totally different direction.
It was baffling how Lin Weihao had ended up there.
Soon, Colonel Tang saw Feng Ran, Bingwen, and Hei Qian had gotten off the other cars and also told him the same thing.
Colonel Tang quickly arranged a party to search for Lin Weihao.
….
Inside an ambulance, a Humvee parked near the gate of Entrance No. 3. Nanzhi strapped the unconscious Xuan Yi securely after treating his wounds and frostbite.
His face had regained a healthy pallor, and he was no longer trembling.
As Nanzhi began to treat Lin Weihao, she reviewed the battle against the Wolf King in her mind.
Lin Weihao looked at Nanzhi’s face in close proximity.
Her calloused fingers moved across the wound on his stomach and legs.
Her skills, as if practiced many times, were fluid and gentle.
If one didn’t know she was an accountant, they would have mistaken her for a nurse.
Her pair of hands to have their own healing powers as when they touched his wounds, the pain and cold dispersed, only leaving warmth.
In angle Nanzhi couldn’t see, the man’s eyes crinkled in delight.
After treating him, Nanzhi dragged a stool and placed it by his stretcher before sitting down.
Her eyes were gloomy, hovering above the bandages.
"Thank you." Lin Weihao’s lips stretched.
A smile hung on his lips.
It still feels different when Zhi Zhi shows concern.
His heart feels stuffy.
"You don’t have to protect Xuan Yi with your life just because I ask you to carry him." Remnants of the wrath she felt in regards to the sight of him getting injured stuck at the corner of her mind, like a glued cassette tape, and it played like a broken loop.
Nanzhi knew that if it weren’t for him carrying Xuan Yi, Lin Weihao would have had no problem dodging the Wolf King’s attacks.
She felt that these wounds were due to her and made her feel burdened.
A light chuckle came from above.
Nanzhi looked up and saw Lin Weihao laughing.
"What are you laughing at? What if the icicles had pierced you deeper or had hit your organs or your eyes or heart?
The frown in her lips deepened after seeing he still had the audacity to laugh.
She suddenly realized why the other ’her’ had scolded him quite often.
Look at him chuckling. Even she felt like scolding him.
She felt two fingers on her left cheek, pinching it lightly.
Lin Weihao was amazed by the silky texture of her cheeks and stroked it a few more times before saying with his face slowly recovering from paleness.
It’s like the old Zhi Zhi, who likes to nag him, had come back.
This was the most lively Nanzhi had been in this life.
"You’re so silly. I already said it. Whatever you want me to do. I’ll do it, even if it’s taking my own life."
The last part was uttered in a low and vulnerable voice, as if he was pleading.
"…just don’t leave me."
His eyes carried the conviction of someone who was ready to leave everything behind, to die.
Nanzhi didn’t know how her expression had turned out after.
The only thing she knew is Lin Weihao had managed to pave his way on the land she closely guarded- her heart.
As Nanzhi was driving on the dark road, a small smile sprouted on her lips.
Lin Weihao, sitting in the passenger seat, had caught that fleeting smile on Nanzhi’s lips.
Despite not being aware of the reason behind it, Lin Weihao found it infectious.
His mood soared and aligned with hers.
