No Escape from Love novel Chapter 233

I shook my head lightly, and my throat was so dry that I could barely make a sound. "Doctor… Can I… Can I go in and stay with my mother for a while?"

The doctor nodded and removed his mask, revealing a face marked with exhaustion. "You can, but don't disturb her rest. She needs to have enough rest."

I thanked him and turned to push open the emergency room door, only to feel a hand gently pulling me back.

It was Lucas. His gaze settled on my face as if trying to see through my expression into my thoughts. "Serena, let me go in with you."

I shook my head and gently pushed his hand away. "No, I… I want to be alone with my mom."

A flicker of disappointment crossed his eyes, but in the end, he simply nodded. "Alright. I'll wait for you outside. If you need anything, just call me."

I forced a weak smile, then pushed open the emergency room door. The strong smell of disinfectant filled the air, stinging my nose and making my eyes well up.

Mom lay quietly on the hospital bed with a pale face. I walked over and gently took her cold hand in mine.

"Mom…" My voice choked, and I could no longer hold back my tears. "How could you be so foolish…"

Her eyelids trembled slightly as if she had heard me. She opened her eyes slowly. Her gaze was unfocused, but she still tried to give me a weak smile. "Serena… Don't cry…"

I clutched her hand tightly, and my vision blurred with tears. "Mom, why did you do this? Did you ever think about me?"

Pain flashed through her eyes, and she struggled to speak. "Serena… I… I'm sorry…"

"Mom, don't say that. You didn't do anything wrong…" My voice trembled. "It's Elena. It's Grandma and Aunt… They're the ones who did this…"
