One Weekend with the Billionaire novel Chapter 16

I can hardly believe my ears. Has Julia just asked me where she needs to sign the document, the agreement that will allow her to come with me for the weekend? I stare at her, my eyes wide, as I contemplate how easy it was to convince her. I am confused. I thought for certain it would be difficult for me to convince Julia that she should spend the weekend with me, but here she is agreeing to it with hardly a word from me.

My eyes flicker across the room to where Springer is sitting, not a part of the conversation but present to keep Julia comfortable. I was afraid that she would be intimidated with me here by herself, but I have underestimated this beautiful woman more than once, and I hope not to do that again. Springer is hiding a smile from me, and I look away from him so that I don’t give anything away myself.

Before she changes her mind, I move to the stack of papers on the table. "It’s not a long document, but it is thorough. Feel free to read through it. Springer can answer any legal questions you may have, or I can provide you with a lawyer of your choice. Do you have a lawyer you’d like for me to contact?"

Julia is staring at me as if she is about to laugh as well. She slowly shakes her head. "No, I don’t have a lawyer, and that’s not necessary." She picks up one of the pens off of the table and pushes the button on the end. The clicking sound it makes when the tip protrudes from the hole makes my heart rate increase. She is truly ready to sign. "I trust you," she says.

What have I done to earn her trust? Nothing, I think. Is this why she is in the horrible predicament she is in now with her husband? Because she has a blinding trust that gets her into trouble?

I cannot waste time exploring that possibility now. Instead, I need for her to sign the documents so that I can move forward with my plan. The idea that she will be in my home tonight is alluring, even if the chances that she will share my bed are next to none. I do not think I will be able to charm her that much in just a few hours. Still, the idea has my breath catching in my throat.

I turn to the last page of the contract and show her the one last unsigned space, the one where her name is typed beneath the line. She already has the pen ready, and before I can even explain anything, she is signing. I’m not sure what this means exactly. Perhaps she is just as attracted to me as I am to her, or perhaps she hates her husband so much, she would go with anyone for the weekend just to be free of him. I know she is a chaste woman, that she has not been with many men. I know this from many sources, but if what Jeff told me earlier, about him being the only man who has had her, is true, then I know her willingness to sign isn’t because she is a loose woman just looking to be with another man. No, it has to be something other than that.

Once Julia has signed, she lets out a sigh and lays her pen down next to the contract, a tight smile on her face. I wonder if she is second guessing herself, but I do not ask. I signal for Springer to take the contract, which he does. His work here is done, and he heads out the door.

I return my attention to Julia. She is just as reserved as always, but I feel more at ease with her now that I have nothing to prove to her.

I clear my throat. "I have a few meetings I need to attend this afternoon, so I won’t be able to leave until around five. I thought perhaps you would enjoy going shopping with Cindy this afternoon. Have you eaten lunch yet?"
