[BACK TO PRIME GROUP]
Finn nodded and sighed in relief, thankful that Penny was here to help him. Fortunately, he mustered the courage to bother her with such a trivial dilemma. If he hadn’t, he knew he wouldn’t get the clarity and encouragement he needed.
"Penelope, thank you is not enough to articulate my gratitude," he expressed sincerely. "But still, thank you. If you need anything from me, don’t hesitate to reach out. Once I fully recover, things will be easier for you. I’ll deal with Jonathan myself... or race you to it."
Penny waved dismissively, still feeling proud of solving this problem for him. Perhaps she was truly gifted. How could she master love and relationships, even though she was also new to this?
"It’s no big deal. Nina is my sister, so anything concerning her is my business," she replied magnanimously. "And about that jackass, he’s not going to do anything for a while. He’ll be too busy recovering from all his losses. The police raided the Information Center, but they weren’t raided because of selling information, but because of the illegal gambling in it. Even so, that’s still good enough for now."
"Oh." Finn shook his head, brows furrowed. "I haven’t heard of that."
"I requested an information lockdown, so it’s not in the news. Even if there are articles about it, they’re easily buried with First Brother and my dad’s articles. Didn’t you see?" she smirked. "No one is talking about the ’illegitimate’ child of Enzo Pierson."
"You were the one who got those articles released about your brother and father?"
"The first one, yes. But the rest? They just happened when people got wind of the situation." Penny shrugged nonchalantly. "As for Jonathan’s news now being able to surface, that would be someone else who probably cares more about the Pierson Corporation."
"It’s Dean."
"Hmm?"
"I’m certain it’s Dean who’s blocking those articles from picking up traction," Finn remarked. "He might not be able to stop the articles from getting released, but he could stop them from reaching an audience."
Penny’s mouth formed into an O-shape. "Well, that’s surprising. I was thinking of someone or some people in the shareholders or the board, but I didn’t expect it to be him."
"Penny, you’ve spent twelve years with the man. You two practically grew up together, and it’s not even an exaggeration to say you spent more time with him than your brothers."
"But that doesn’t mean I was paying attention to him."
"But I’m sure you already knew that Zoren doesn’t see him as a threat. If anything, Dean Pierson is someone he respects. You’re aware that Zoren sent me to Dean, but it’s not just to monitor him — it’s to make sure he doesn’t make any huge mistakes." Finn chuckled. "So far, Dean hasn’t done anything that required my intervention."
He paused for a moment and then raised his shoulders a bit. "You might not be aware of this, but in the first life, Dean Pierson was one of Jonathan’s strongest opponents. At that time, although Zoren was still young, he had already announced he wasn’t going to have a child. So, he just announced that he’d be choosing his heir within the family. Of course, that caused an entirely different ruckus within the family."
"But what I can assure you is that Dean was leading the game. You know him. Even though we excelled in class, we did better because the lessons at the Summit School of Excellence were already lessons we had covered in the first life. Yet, Dean was already number one without any memories," he continued in the same serious tone, very different from the one he was using during his love problems. "My point is, Dean right now is very different from how I remembered him. And that is because of you."
"Why me?" Penny scoffed. "That guy just does whatever the hell he wants and says things without even thinking twice about it."
At this point, Finn should’ve realized that coming to Penny for love advice might have been the wrong decision. However, he was too blinded by the fact that he subconsciously wanted to believe her instead of thinking Nina would probably dump him. Hence, even when the red flag was waving right in front of him, he ignored it.
"Whatever you say, Penny," Finn shrugged. "Anyway, as for the DNA testing clinic where Jonathan got that result, it’s a legit clinic. One of the most sophisticated and trusted."
"I know. I did some digging. Though Renren already knew the clinic when he saw the result. It’s why he didn’t question it anymore."
