’Ugh... goddammit!’ Angel screamed inwardly, but on the outside, he could only sigh in frustration. Driving Patricia home, he glanced at the rearview mirror to where she sat. ’This woman... I hate her.’
Not long ago, Angel received a call from the safe house. It was the butler, telling him that Patricia was going to call the police if he didn’t let her go home. As if he wanted to keep her at his place! He was just being nice and sympathizing with her because she’d obviously been through a lot.
His face soured. ’Seriously. Once I drop her off, I’ll ask Penny to replace me. If not with Mark, then with Mylo! That lunatic — why did she even send him to Sir Zoren? He’s a menace. He’s better suited to look after this crazy woman! They’re both a menace!’
Another deep exhale escaped him, knowing that even if he kept complaining, he would still have to drive Patricia home. Besides, she already had the gall to threaten him.
Meanwhile, Patricia kept her eyes on the window quietly. She would glance at the driver’s seat every once in a while, pressing her lips into a thin line. Whenever her mouth opened, her voice wouldn’t come out of her throat. So, she’d end up looking away and staring out the window.
"Just so you know, I’m not going to protect you in your home," Angel’s voice broke the silence after a while. "Once I drop you off, that’s it."
Patricia gazed at the driver’s seat and scoffed. "Are you threatening me?"
"If I threatened you, you’d know it," he replied, maintaining a calm tone despite his frustration. "I’m reminding you so you don’t do anything reckless anymore."
"..." She pursed her lips as her shoulders lowered.
"Like I told you, those guys were already captured. So, they won’t be able to do anything to you. Even so, there are many people like them in this world. People who would hurt others for their own gain, people who have no conscience, and people who are worse than animals," he continued solemnly. "Don’t invite those kinds of people into your life, Miss Miller."
Patricia’s eyes softened briefly, but she quickly looked away. She didn’t say anything anymore, letting the silence settle in the car. Angel also didn’t speak again until they reached a familiar subdivision.
Soon after, Angel slowed down and pulled over a few blocks from the Miller estate. He glanced at the rearview mirror, only to catch her staring out the window.
"We’re here," he announced, though he could see that she already knew.
Patricia gulped and nodded, glancing at him briefly. Part of her wanted to thank him, but she bit her tongue to stop herself. Instead, she opened the door and jumped out, closing it with a bang.
Meanwhile, Angel watched her figure through the windshield.
"Wait..." He furrowed his brows, scrunching up his nose. "Is that my hoodie she’s wearing?! That — that’s expensive! Damn it! That’s the one with my idol’s autograph!"
Angel was tempted to jump out of the car and run after her. He wanted to take back that hoodie, perhaps replacing it with another one. That hoodie was not only expensive, but it also had an autograph of his idol. On the other hand, he understood why she was wearing it: to cover her bruises.
"Shit..." he pinched the bridge of his nose, watching her stand in front of the gates. "That’s... that has sentimental value. I can’t just let her have it."
Frustrated, Angel ruffled his hair in irritation, his determination to ask for a transfer reaching an all-time high.

Patricia stood motionless at the front door, running her tongue across her inner cheek. Reaching out to the knob, she pushed it open.
"Oh, Miss Patricia?" Suddenly, a woman’s voice grabbed her attention.
Patricia turned her head to see the maid approaching with a kind smile. Her mouth opened as soon as she recognized who it was. The maid was one of the helpers who had been laid off because of the family’s financial crisis. Looking around, she noticed a few more helpers in the house, reminding her of how things used to be before their family problems.
"It’s good to see you..."
"Honey, is it good?" Mrs. Miller happily watched her husband and son eat something nice. Despite being the main villain in the buyout, she was now happy after seeing the results. freёweɓnovel.com
