The first meeting with Mint was strange, but it became even stranger when they met her again—this time, in a local restaurant.
"Uh..." was the only thing everyone could say as they gazed at the lady in the high-collared dress that reached down to her ankles. Even under the dress were high socks and black shoes. Her hair was braided into two low pigtails, giving her an old-fashioned, almost pious look.
"Again, I’m sorry for startling everyone earlier," Mint said, dramatically placing a hand across her chest. "It seems I got so excited to meet my cousin’s friends that I forgot my manners. I’ve reflected on it and I hope we can all start on the right foot."
For a moment, everyone could only stare at this lady in stunned silence. Those who had met her earlier were especially speechless. Meanwhile, Benjamin, who was seated around the table, had his face buried in his palms out of shame.
"Ben, are you okay?" Allen asked quietly, watching Benjamin peek over his fingers. "No, you’re not, are you?"
Benjamin quietly went back to weeping. Earlier, when he dragged Mint away, he scolded her for being rude to Penny and Zoren. Although Mint had said that she would make Penny her wife, Benjamin thought his cousin was only joking at that time. Therefore, he didn’t think much about it until everything unfolded right before his eyes.
Along with the scolding, he had also warned Mint that if she didn’t act decently, he would get angry. Who would have thought that this was what she would do? No, she wasn’t mocking Benjamin, but she was being dead serious about this.
"Especially to you, my lady—I mean, Penelope," Mint flashed Penny a humble smile. "I was so mesmerized by your beauty that I forgot that just trying to get close to you is too ambitious for a mortal like him."
"..." Penny tried to compose herself, but in the end, her expression kept failing her.
"You too," Mint moved on and fluttered her eyelashes at Zoren. "I was playing too much and didn’t consider my actions beforehand. Please forgive me and give me another chance to correct this recklessness."
Even Zoren was at a loss for words, staring at Mint dead in the eye. What made this worse was that Zoren knew she was being sincere. He knew Mint—they were acquaintances. And if there was one thing Mint was scared of, it was having Benjamin angry with her. Thus, if Benjamin asked her to apologize, she would do so in the sincerest way she could, which also appeared in the weirdest ways.
Mint smiled timidly as she scanned everyone’s faces. "Peace?"
"Amen," Max blurted out, only to flinch when Ginnie slapped his shoulder. "Aw."
Ginnie glared at him before setting her attention back on Mint. She wasn’t in a position to forgive because Mint hadn’t done anything to her. Even so, she’d heard Mint had started on the wrong foot with Zoren, and that’s why Mint was apologizing.
Even so...
"Senior, is she for real?" Ginnie whispered, turning to the other side where Hugo was seated.
Hugo shook his head and scratched his head. "I guess?? I don’t know, but this trip just got ten times weirder."
"Penny, you should forgive her and turn her back into the demon she was," Lily, on the other hand, whispered to Penny while keeping her eyes on Mint. "You said she offended Mr. Pierson, so I guess only demons could do that."
Penny sighed because, obviously, everyone was either confused or just like Benjamin—embarrassed by this. Although Penny hadn’t noticed, Slater had been looking away to hide the shame creeping up his spine.
