[Continuation]
The nanny was declared dead on the spot. Naylani and Zoren survived the fire. However, unlike Zoren, who had inhaled too much smoke and lost a lot of blood, Naylani’s injuries consisted of a few broken bones. She had some minor burns, but overall, she was fine.
"Uh..." A soft yet dry groan escaped Naylani’s closed mouth as she opened her eyes. Her eyelids were still heavy, and her vision was blurred, but she could make out a blurry figure of a man hovering over her. She could hear him talking, but his voice sounded distant. It was inaudible.
Naylani tried to keep her eyes open but couldn’t maintain consciousness. Even as she fell back into unconsciousness, there was only one thought on her mind:
’I lived.’
A very faint smile crept onto her face before everything faded to black.

Naylani’s fall from the second floor had been enough to keep her unconscious for a few days. But when she woke up, Enzo was there at her side.
"Hey," he called, holding her hand gently. Tears quickly coated his eyes as a relieved smile appeared on his face. "Hey, gorgeous, you’re awake." freēwēbηovel.c૦m
Naylani opened and closed her eyes weakly, watching as tears of relief fell from his eyes. She couldn’t help but smile faintly.
Silence fell over them as they stared at each other. No words were exchanged between them, even when the attending doctor came to check on her condition. Now out of critical condition, the doctor advised that she rest until she was ready to be discharged. She would also need therapy, but other than that, everything seemed fine.
With that, the doctors left Naylani and Enzo alone.
"Do you need anything?" he asked, still holding her hand lovingly. "Hungry? Mother prepared some healthy soups for you. I’ll ask someone to bring it here warm, alright?"
Naylani blinked and nodded faintly, watching him smile in relief. Nothing significant was said between them; Enzo was just glad that his wife was awake. Although that didn’t mean the anxiety that had eaten him alive for the past few days had completely gone away, having her awake was one less worry.
They didn’t talk about the incident—at least, not until the police arrived.
At first, when Naylani saw the officers by the door, she thought they were only there for formality. After all, their house had burned down, and the police needed to be involved. But after talking with Enzo for a few minutes, they entered the ward with him to ask her a few questions.
Their questions were basic, questions she had expected. But the more they asked, the more suspicious their line of questioning seemed.
Naylani lay motionless on the hospital bed, staring blankly at the officers. Seeing this, Enzo quickly stepped in.
"How about we continue this later?" he suggested. "My wife just woke up this morning. This could be too overwhelming for her."
