[Bennet Mansion]
"Sir Haines?" Butler Jen stopped in the entryway when he saw Haines walking out of his room. "It’s a little late. Do you need anything?" freeweɓnøvel.com
Haines looked up at him and sighed. "Is Charles still awake?"
"At this hour? I doubt it, sir."
"Then never mind." Haines shrugged. "Hugo said he had quite a few drinks and that Atlas wouldn’t pick him up. I’m going to pick him up."
"Are you going to be alright, sir?"
"I have a bad leg, but I can drive," Haines reassured as he walked to where Butler Jen was standing. "Also, Butler Jen, it’s already late. You should rest."
Butler Jen smiled at him and nodded. "I was just about to, but I thought I should check some locks."
"Rest and make someone else do that instead."
"Yes, Sir Haines." Butler Jen walked him to the entrance. "If you need a driver, I can call one."
"There’s no need for that. It’s already too late to bother anyone."
Butler Jen chuckled, thinking that Haines didn’t want to bother anyone, but Haines himself was being bothered to pick up his nephew. But then again, Hugo rarely called for help. Butler Jen watched Haines jump into the car and waved as the car sped away.
"I wonder what is keeping him awake at this hour?" he wondered to himself, his brows rising as he saw a sports car driving past Haines’ car. Even with just the car, Butler Jen could immediately tell who was just coming home at this hour.
Butler Jen waited outside until the car stopped at the side of the driveway. "Good... morning, Third Young Master."
"Hey, Butler Jen," Slater lazily walked out of the car and approached. "Why are you still awake? Isn’t it a bit late now?"
Slater then gasped before Butler Jen could tell him the reason. "Butler Jen, don’t tell me you’ve been waiting for me to come home? Do I really worry you a lot?"
"..." Butler Jen maintained a smile, biting his tongue to stop whatever he was about to say. "Have you eaten, Third Young Master?"
"No." Slater frowned dejectedly. "James told me that I gained weight! And that I need to diet."
"Then, I’ll heat up some soup for you."
"Butler Jen..." Slater’s eyes softened, turning round as Butler Jen’s devotion touched him. "I’d be very sad once I move out again."
"Let’s just go inside, Third Young Master." Butler Jen motioned for Slater to start moving. Having said that, Slater dragged his feet inside.
"Butler Jen, it’s a good thing I didn’t go to my First Brother. I told him that we’d go to dinner together, but he got angry that I was late," Slater mumbled, thinking that his dinner plans with Atlas had been canceled because he made the mistake of telling his first brother he’d be late.
"I see." Butler Jen nodded in agreement. "The First Young Master is probably busy. He hasn’t gone home yet."
"Ah." Slater shrugged. "He’s not that busy. He just had to pick up Second Brother."
Deep lines appeared on Butler Jen’s face as he looked at Slater. "He’s going to pick up the Second Young Master?"
"Uh, yes?" Slater furrowed his brows as he saw the confusion on Butler Jen’s face. "Butler Jen, why?"
"Sir Haines just left... to pick up the Second Young Master? He said the First Young Master didn’t want to pick him up."
"Huh? That’s weird. First Brother is already going to pick him up."
The two of them stared at each other in utter confusion. What was going on?
